Description

What this ingredient is

IO Soothing Care Active Liquid is a liquid active publicly documented as an extract of Opuntia ficus-indica, the prickly pear cactus. The cactus thrives in hot, dry climates by storing water in its pads, an image that suits a cooling, refreshing skin care ingredient. This page sells the concentrate in milliliter packs. Our product record confirms that it is water-soluble and is added directly to the water phase during cool-down. The exact INCI and active content are on the CoA for each lot.

Properties

This ingredient is positioned for calm, comfortable and refreshed-looking skin, especially after exposure to sun, heat or other stress. Brands like its clear desert-plant story and its fit in transparent gels and lightweight serums. It is a natural partner for summer and after-sun ranges and for products aimed at skin that looks red and feels warm.

Applications

After-sun gels, cooling face serums, eye gels, soothing moisturizers, post-shave balms and mist sprays are typical. This ingredient pairs well with IO Soothing Plant Active Liquid for comfort and with Hyaluronic acid liquid 1% for hydration. More options are in our peptides catalog.

How to use it

Cool the base below 40 °C, add this ingredient and stir gently. Avoid reheating. Keep the pH in a mild range. Follow the CoA for the use level.

Designing cooling products

A cooling sensation comes from texture and temperature. Water gels evaporate quickly and feel fresh; menthol derivatives such as menthyl lactate add a cool feel at low levels. Suggest storing the gel in the fridge. Aloe vera juice and panthenol strengthen the comfort story.

Summer ranges

A summer range might include a cooling face gel, an after-sun body gel and a refreshing mist. Using this ingredient across all three ties the range together. Bright, desert-inspired packaging supports the story, and travel sizes suit beach and holiday use.

Sensitive-looking skin

For skin that looks red and feels sensitive, keep the formula short, fragrance-free and mildly preserved. Test comfort with a small panel before launch and recommend a patch test for very reactive skin.

Compatibility

Plant-derived liquid actives are generally compatible with aloe vera, panthenol, allantoin, glycerin, hyaluronic acid and peptides. Avoid strong oxidizers and long heating.

Fragrance and color

Cooling gels look best crystal clear or with a pale green or blue tint that suggests freshness. If you add color, use cosmetic dyes at very low levels and test their light stability. Fresh, green or cucumber-like fragrances match the desert-plant story, but keep them low for products aimed at sensitive-looking skin, or skip fragrance entirely and let the cooling texture carry the experience. ## Characteristics

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
