Description
What this ingredient is
IO Scalp Care Plant Active Liquid is a plant-based hair care active made from the sprouts of the pea plant, Pisum sativum. Sprouts are harvested at an early stage of growth, when the young plant is rich in signaling molecules, and then extracted into a water-compatible liquid. On this page the material is sold as a liquid concentrate in pack sizes measured in milliliters. The full INCI and the carrier system are printed on the CoA that ships with each lot, and that document should be the source for your label.
Properties
The producer positions this ingredient around the natural rhythm of the hair and the look of a fuller, thicker head of hair. For brands, the appeal lies in a short botanical story, a vegan origin and an easy water-soluble format. The liquid does not need dissolving and mixes into clear tonics, so it suits transparent packaging. It also gives marketing teams a plant-based alternative or complement to peptide-only scalp products.
Applications
This ingredient is used in leave-on scalp tonics, dropper serums, single-dose ampoules, scalp masks, shampoos and conditioners. Leave-on formats keep the active on the scalp longest, so many brands put the main dose there and support it with a matching shampoo. A frequent pairing is with IO Hair Peptide Complex (Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3, Red Clover Extract), which brings a peptide angle, or with IO Hair Density Complex Liquid. Other hair and skin peptides and actives are listed in our peptides catalog.
How to use it
Prepare the water phase, cool it below 40 °C and add this ingredient with gentle stirring. In emulsions, add it after the emulsion has formed and cooled. Use the level from the supplier CoA for your lot. Keep the finished pH in a mild range suited to the scalp, roughly 5.0 to 6.0, and avoid long heating once the active is in.
Designing a scalp routine
Shoppers respond well to simple routines. A typical line built around this ingredient includes a gentle shampoo, a light leave-on tonic applied once or twice daily and an optional weekly scalp mask. Keep textures light so the hair does not look flat, and choose sprays or droppers that place the product on the scalp rather than on the lengths. Clear instructions about daily use and consistency help customers stay with the routine.
Compatibility
The liquid works with water, glycerin, propanediol and hydroalcoholic bases. It sits well beside panthenol, niacinamide, caffeine, biotin derivatives and hair peptides. In shampoos it tolerates common mild surfactant systems. Avoid strong oxidizers and very high temperatures. Test clarity and odor after adding fragrance, as plant extracts can slightly shift scent. If you plan a foam or a dry shampoo, run a small compatibility test first, because those formats use propellants or powders that behave differently from a simple tonic.
