Description

Keramare, brown seaweed for hair

Keramare is a hair care active based on an extract of the brown seaweed Cystoseira compressa, carried in a corn starch matrix. The INCI is Aqua, Glycerin, Cystoseira Compressa Extract, Zea Mays Starch, Benzyl Alcohol, Dehydroacetic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Gluconolactone, Calcium Gluconate. The recommended level is 1 to 3%, and it works between pH 4.5 and 6.5. It is a light yellow, slightly viscous liquid that dissolves in the water phase and mixes well with other humectants. The supplier states that it is COSMOS compliant and paraben free. The smallest pack is 0.33 oz (10 mL).

What the seaweed brings

Cystoseira compressa is a Mediterranean brown alga and, like other brown seaweeds, a source of marine polysaccharides, alginate-type compounds, minerals and polyphenols. The starch matrix helps the extract spread along the fiber and leaves a smooth, conditioned feel, while gluconolactone and calcium gluconate round out a gentle profile.

What it does in hair products

The supplier describes Keramare as a moisture and protection active. Hair looks stronger and feels softer, combs more easily, shows more shine and less static, and is better supported against blow-dryers, flat irons and curling tongs. Keep claims cosmetic: stronger looking, smoother, glossier hair that is better protected during styling.

Formats

In shampoos it adds moisture and a restoring story; in balms and conditioners it supports conditioning of stressed lengths. Masks are the place for deeper care, and serums and sprays carry it as a styling shield.

Processing and partners

Add Keramare to the water phase, keep the finished pH between 4.5 and 6.5 and stir until uniform. Pair it with D-panthenol for moisture and hydrolyzed keratin for a protein story. Algisium C2 adds a second seaweed-derived active. More hair actives are in our cosmetic actives section.
