Description

The scalp-focused copper peptide

AHK-Cu is the copper complex of the alanine, histidine and lysine tripeptide, listed in cosmetic nomenclature as Copper Tripeptide-3. While its better-known cousin GHK-Cu is usually chosen for face care, AHK-Cu is mostly used in scalp and hair products positioned for thicker, fuller-looking hair. It is part of our peptide powders.

Choosing between copper peptides

For facial serums, our GHK-Cu powder remains the classic option. AHK-Cu is the pick when the product brief is about the scalp. Both are light blue to blue powders that dissolve in water.

Formulating

Dissolve the powder in distilled water to make a premix and add it to the batch below 40 °C. Keep the finished pH between about 5.5 and 7, since copper peptides lose color and stability in strongly acidic bases. Avoid chelating agents such as EDTA, vitamin C, strong acids and high-dose AHAs in the same product.

Product ideas

Leave-on scalp serums, night scalp tonics, root sprays and brow or lash serums. Pair it with caffeine for an energizing concept. Keep claims on appearance: hair looks fuller and denser.

Identity note

Confirm the CAS number on the lot certificate of analysis, since several numbers circulate for this complex.
