Description
This ingredient at a glance
IO Yogurt Ferment Crystal Powder is a crystal powder that is easily soluble in water and, as the card notes, easy to add to emulsions. The working pH range on the card is 4 to 5, which is mildly acidic. The site lists serums, lotion systems and creams. The card does not give a composition, so check the INCI name, source and recommended level on the supplier data sheet and CoA before writing the label.
The yogurt story in skin care
Yogurt masks are one of the oldest home beauty rituals. Fermented milk is rich in lactic acid, proteins and other nutrients, and it leaves skin feeling soft and fresh. Modern cosmetics borrow that story with ferments, milk proteins and lactic acid derivatives. A mildly acidic pH, like the 4 to 5 range on the card, matches the natural acidity of yogurt and of the skin surface.
Product formats
Serums
Light serums with a mildly acidic pH suit a gentle, refreshing yogurt story.
Lotions
Face and body lotions for soft, smooth skin.
Creams
Day and night creams with a comforting, milky character.
Masks
Cream masks inspired by the classic yogurt mask are a natural extension.
Processing
Dissolve the crystals in the water phase at room temperature, or add them directly to the emulsion as the card allows, and stir until uniform. Adjust the final pH into the 4 to 5 range. At this pH, organic acid preservatives such as sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate work well.
Good partners
Donkey milk powder and the Oat milk active complete a milky story. Lactic acid supports the mildly acidic pH. Browse more in the actives catalog.
Testing
Measure pH and viscosity over time. A panel can rate softness and freshness after use.

Mildly acidic products and skin comfort
The skin surface is naturally slightly acidic. Products in the pH 4 to 5 range feel familiar to the skin and support a comfortable feel. They also allow the use of simple, well-known preservatives. Make sure every other ingredient, especially thickeners and actives, works at this pH.
Seasonal and food-inspired ranges
Food-inspired cosmetics are popular because shoppers recognize the ingredients. A yogurt line could include a cream mask, a soft face lotion and a body milk. Pair it with fruit extracts for a breakfast-inspired theme, and use fresh, clean packaging.
Range ideas
A yogurt cream mask, a face lotion and a body milk can share this ingredient and a simple, comforting story.
Lot records
Keep each CoA with the batch file and note the lot used.
Preservation at low pH
The pH 4 to 5 range is ideal for gentle organic acid preservatives. Sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate are most effective below pH 5.5, so a yogurt-inspired product can use a simple, mild preservative system. Run a challenge test to confirm.
Storage
Store closed in a dry place. Close the container after use.
