Description
About unrefined tomato seed oil
Unrefined tomato seed oil is a liquid carrier oil that blends easily with butters and other oils. It comes from the seeds of the tomato, Solanum lycopersicum, and is often pressed from seeds left over after tomato processing. Because it is unrefined, it keeps a natural color and a mild, green scent. Read the INCI line and freshness values on the CoA that ships with each lot.
A kitchen-garden story
Tomatoes are one of the most loved foods in the world, and a tomato ingredient gives skin care a fresh, garden-inspired feel. The by-product origin also supports an upcycling story when the supplier can document it. For natural brands, the oil is a distinctive alternative to the usual seed oils.
Product formats
Facial oils
A facial oil with tomato seed oil and lighter oils gives a soft, glowing finish. Keep its share moderate so color and scent stay pleasant.
Creams
In a day or night cream, add the oil to the oil phase for a nourishing touch and an unusual ingredient name.
Body butters and balms
Whipped body butters and balms blend the oil with shea and cocoa butter. The supplier specification notes it works with butters, which makes these products a natural fit.
Hair oils
A light finishing oil for the ends adds shine and softness.
Processing
Blend the oil at room temperature into oils and butters, or add it to the oil phase of emulsions before heating. Keep heating times short. Add tocopherol.
Color and scent
Unrefined tomato seed oil can be golden to orange-red and smells mildly green. Test the color in white creams and choose a fragrance that complements the scent.
Partners
Shea butter, squalane and Pumpkin Seed Oil suit rich blends. Apple Seed Oil adds a fruit-themed partner. The carrier oils catalog lists more seed oils from food crops.
Upcycling documentation
If you want to tell an upcycling story, ask the supplier for documentation about the seed source and keep it with the CoA. Use the claim only when it is supported.
Shelf life
Unrefined oils oxidize faster than refined ones. Store sealed in a cool, dark place, buy smaller lots more often and run stability tests on finished products. Smell each lot before use.
Claims
Use sensory and appearance wording: soft, nourished, glowing-looking skin; glossy hair ends. The tomato origin gives a memorable story.
Line ideas
A tomato seed facial oil, a body butter and a lip balm make a small garden-themed line. Red and green packaging and simple vegetable illustrations connect the products. Summer is a natural launch season, when tomatoes are in every market.
Blending ratios
In facial oils, about a fifth of the blend as tomato seed oil gives color and character without a strong scent. In body butters, a higher share is fine because the butter softens the scent. Record each trial so the final version is easy to repeat.

A small trial bottle lets shoppers get to know an unusual oil before committing to a full size.
