Description
Pumpkin seed oil in brief
Pumpkin seed oil is a fat-soluble liquid carrier oil pressed from the seeds of the pumpkin, Cucurbita pepo. It goes into the oil phase of creams and lotions or straight into waterless products. The supplier CoA confirms the INCI name and quality data for each lot.
A seasonal favorite
Pumpkin is one of the strongest seasonal themes in skin care. Autumn ranges with pumpkin masks, creams and body oils sell well from September to the end of the year. Using pumpkin seed oil gives these products a real pumpkin ingredient, not only a fragrance.
Product formats
Creams
A rich autumn face or body cream can carry pumpkin seed oil in its oil phase. Keep the share moderate so the color stays pleasant.
Masks
A pumpkin cream mask, often paired with a gentle fruit enzyme or fruit acids, is a classic seasonal product.
Body and hair oils
A body oil with warm spice notes, or a hair oil for the ends, can use pumpkin seed oil as one of the main oils.
Balms
A balm for dry skin in cold weather fits the autumn theme as well.
Color and processing
Unrefined pumpkin seed oil is usually dark green to brown. In light creams, small amounts give a warm tone, but larger amounts can make the product look muddy. Test the color before choosing the level. Add the oil to the oil phase before heating, keep heating short, and add tocopherol.
Partners
Natural AHA fruit acids fit a pumpkin mask. Shea butter, sunflower oil and Black Cumin Seed Oil work in balms and body oils. Our carrier oils catalog lists more oils.
Shelf life
Store sealed in a cool, dark place, and run stability tests on finished products. Check odor before use, since seed oils can become rancid over time.
Claims
Use warm, sensory wording: nourished, soft skin; a cozy autumn ritual; smooth, glowing-looking skin after a mask.
Planning the season
Seasonal products need early planning. Finish formulas and stability tests by early summer, so the products are ready for autumn shelves. Limited-edition packaging with pumpkin illustrations helps sales, and the same base formulas can return each year with small changes.
Pairing with fragrance
Pumpkin products often carry warm spice fragrances such as cinnamon, clove and vanilla notes. Keep fragrance levels moderate, and check that the chosen fragrance is suitable for face products if the cream is for the face.
Characteristics
Form: liquid oil. Solubility: fat-soluble. Source: pumpkin seeds, Cucurbita pepo. Typical products: creams, masks, body oils, hair oils, balms. INCI and quality data: supplier CoA.
Original recipe: pumpkin body butter, 100 g
Shea butter 40.00 g, cocoa butter 15.00 g, pumpkin seed oil 15.00 g, sunflower seed oil 20.00 g, arrowroot powder 8.50 g, tocopherol 0.50 g, fragrance 1.00 g. Melt the butters with the oils, cool until it starts to set, add the rest and whip to a soft texture.
Texture tips
Pumpkin seed oil has a medium weight. In body butters it softens the firm feel of cocoa butter, while in facial creams a smaller share keeps the texture light. Starches such as arrowroot reduce the oily feel of rich butters and help them absorb faster. Whip body butters while they set to give a fluffy texture that customers enjoy. Write down every texture trial, including the setting temperature and whipping time, so the final product can be repeated at scale without surprises.
Retail display
Seasonal products benefit from a small display or a themed bundle. A pumpkin mask with a body butter is an easy gift set for the holidays.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
Storage
Store sealed in a cool, dark place. Close the bottle tightly after use.
