Description
TEGO Pep 4-Even at a glance
TEGO Pep 4-Even is a peptide for an even skin tone from Germany. Its INCI is Tetrapeptide-30, Glycerin. It is a colorless, water-soluble liquid used at 0.5 to 5% of the finished product, and the supplier's own testing was done at 2.5%. It is designed for all skin types. It must be stored cool, at 4 to 8 °C, in a tightly closed pack protected from light.
Tetrapeptide-30
Tetrapeptide-30 is a short chain of four amino acids. Peptides of this kind are called biomimetic, because they are built from the same building blocks as the skin's own proteins and signal molecules. Tetrapeptide-30 was developed to work on the pigmentation process of the skin. Unlike many classic brighteners, it is colorless, odorless and very easy to formulate, and it does not need a low pH.
What it does
The supplier lists a clear profile. The peptide visibly reduces the look of uneven patches, brightens the skin and makes the skin tone look more even. It works for all skin types, including darker skin tones, where uneven pigmentation is a common concern. It gently slows the pigmentation process and is kind to the skin. It also helps the skin feel calm and less reactive, which makes it a good choice for sensitive skin that does not tolerate strong brighteners.
Formulation advantages
TEGO Pep 4-Even shows good stability in formulas. It is compatible with sun filters, which allows brightening day creams with, the most logical product for an even tone. It is colorless and clear, so it does not change the look of a serum or gel.
How to formulate
Add the peptide to the water phase at cool-down, below 40 °C. Keep the finished product at about pH 5 to 7. Peptides are best kept away from strong acids and long heating. A brightening serum can combine TEGO Pep 4-Even with niacinamide and alpha-arbutin for a multi active approach. More peptides and brighteners are listed in the cosmetic actives section.
Dosing
Daily creams and lotions use 0.5 to 2%. Brightening serums and spot care use 2.5 to 5%. The supplier's testing level of 2.5% is a good starting point for a serum.
Product ideas
Brightening serums, tone evening day creams with, spot correcting serums, night creams for an even tone, hand creams for the look of age spots and body lotions for an even look are the main concepts.
