Description
Dark spots from sun, age and old blemishes are one of the main reasons customers buy brightening products. IO Even-Tone Serum Active Liquid is a water-soluble active listed for spot-focused serums, brightening creams with antioxidant care and masks for dull skin.
Product data
Completely soluble in water, insoluble in oils. PH range 4.5 to 6.0. Applications from the card: serums for the look of dark spots, creams and emulsions with antioxidant and brightening effects, and masks and gels for dull skin. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA of each lot confirms the exact INCI, composition and recommended level.
Building a brightening product
Brightening works best as a system: an active for an even-looking tone, antioxidants, gentle exfoliation in some products and, above all, daily sunscreen. Without sun protection, any brightening routine struggles.
Product formats
Spot serum
A concentrated serum for targeted use.
Brightening cream
A daily cream with antioxidant care.
Glow mask
A weekly mask for dull skin.
Brightening gel
A light gel for oily skin.
Formulating guidance
Add the active during cool-down into the water phase and keep the finished pH within the listed range. Pair it with niacinamide for an even-tone message, 3-glyceryl ascorbate for vitamin C and beta arbutin for a classic brightening trio. Ingredients that pair well with this ingredient are collected under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording such as brighter, more even-looking skin and less visible dark spots. Support numbers with colorimeter or image analysis tests over several weeks.

Original recipe: even-tone spot serum, 30 g
Purified water 24.30 g, IO Even-Tone Serum Active Liquid 0.90 g as an example level per CoA, glycerin 0.90 g, propanediol 1.20 g, niacinamide 1.20 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.18 g, panthenol 0.30 g, sodium phytate 0.03 g, preservative 0.30 g, sodium citrate solution 0.69 g. Disperse cellulose in the glycols, add water and hydrate. For IO Even-Tone Serum Active Liquid, add niacinamide, the active, panthenol, phytate and preservative below 40 °C. Adjust pH to about 5.5.
Why dark spots form
Dark spots appear where pigment builds up after years of sun, with age or after blemishes. They fade slowly, and sun exposure makes them darker again. A brightening routine combines a tone-focused active, antioxidants and daily sun protection for several weeks. Explaining this simply sets realistic expectations and leads to better reviews.
Masks for dull skin
A weekly glow mask with the active, a gentle clay and humectants gives an instant fresh look that motivates customers between serum results.
Sensory design
Spot serums should be light and fast-absorbing so they layer under creams and sunscreen.
Storage
Store the container closed in a cool place away from light.
