Description
Sebum keeps skin and hair supple, but too much of it means shiny foreheads by noon and flat, greasy roots a day after washing. IO Oily Skin and Scalp Active Liquid is a water-soluble active whose name points at sebum, and it suits oil-control products for both face and scalp.
Product data
Water-soluble. The card does not list applications or origin. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA of each lot confirms the exact INCI, composition and recommended level.
Face and scalp
The face and scalp share the same type of oil glands. That lets one oil-control active serve two lines: mattifying face care and shampoos or tonics for oily roots.
Product formats
Mattifying serum
A light serum for oily skin.
Oil-control fluid
A daytime fluid with a matte finish.
Clarifying toner
A gentle toner after cleansing.
Shampoo for oily roots
A shampoo that keeps hair fresh longer.
Scalp tonic
A leave-on spray for oily scalps.
Formulating guidance
Add the active during cool-down into the water phase. Pair it with niacinamide for oil balance, IO Pore and Oily Skin Care Active Liquid in face products and caffeine in scalp tonics. Ingredients that pair well with this ingredient are collected under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording such as less shine, matte-looking skin and hair that stays fresh longer. Support numbers with sebum measurements or panel tests.
Who the products are for
Customers with oily skin or oily scalps, teenagers and people in hot, humid climates.
Gentle approach
Harsh cleansers can leave skin and scalp tight and still oily. Gentle, regular care usually works better.
Matte finish
Silica and starch absorb oil. Add them in small amounts to face fluids.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking pH, viscosity and appearance.
Packaging
Pumps for fluids, droppers for serums, bottles for toners and shampoos.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.
Range planning
A toner, a serum and a shampoo for oily roots form a two-category oil-control line.
Preservation
Confirm the preservative system with a challenge test.
Labeling
Use the INCI from the CoA on the label.
Original recipe: mattifying serum, 100 g
Purified water 83.40 g, glycerin 2.00 g, propanediol 4.00 g, IO Oily Skin and Scalp Active Liquid 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, niacinamide 4.00 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.60 g, silica 1.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, preservative 1.00 g, sodium citrate solution 0.50 g. Disperse cellulose in the glycols, add water and hydrate. Add niacinamide, the active, silica, panthenol and preservative below 40 °C. Adjust pH to about 5.5.
Shampoo detail
Oily roots need a shampoo that cleans well without stripping the lengths. Use a balanced surfactant system, add the active after the surfactants and apply conditioner only to the ends. Customers notice success when their hair stays fresh an extra day between washes.
Scalp tonic detail
A light, alcohol-moderate tonic with the active, applied to the roots after washing, supports a fresh feel. Test drying time and residue.
Routine guidance
Face: cleanser, toner and serum, with a light fluid and sunscreen in the morning. Scalp: shampoo for oily roots and tonic after each wash.
Sensory design
Test the face fluid finish after one and four hours.
Teen care
Teen skin is often oily. Simple, affordable products with clear instructions work best for this group, and gentle care prevents over-drying.
Batch notes
Record the pH of each finished batch and compare the matte finish of new batches against a retained sample.
Storage
Store the container closed in a cool place away from light.
