Description
Shine by midday, makeup that slides and the occasional blemish: oily and combination skin has a familiar set of frustrations. IO Oily and Combination Skin Active is a water-soluble active listed for exactly this group, with mattifying products and oil-control serums and fluids on its card.
Product data
Water-soluble. PH range 5.0 to 6.5. Applications from the card: care for oily and combination skin, mattifying facial products, serums and fluids with oil control and products for skin with blemishes. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA of each lot confirms the exact INCI, composition and recommended level.
Oil control without harshness
Many customers with oily skin over-cleanse and use strong alcohol toners, which can leave skin tight and still shiny. Gentle oil-control products with light hydration usually give better results over time.
Product formats
Oil-control serum
A light, water-based serum.
Mattifying fluid
A daytime fluid with a matte finish.
Clarifying toner
A gentle toner after cleansing.
Gel moisturizer
A fresh gel for night.
Formulating guidance
Add the active during cool-down into the water phase and keep the finished pH within the listed range. Pair it with niacinamide for oil balance, IO Pore and Oily Skin Care Active Liquid for a pore-refining duo and D-Panthenol for comfort. Ingredients that pair well with this ingredient are collected under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording such as less shine, matte-looking, clearer-looking skin. Support numbers with sebum measurements or panel tests on the finished product.
Who the products are for
Teenagers, young adults and anyone with oily or combination skin.
Matte finish
Silica and starches absorb oil. Add them in small amounts and test shine after four to six hours.
Hydration
Oily skin can still be dehydrated. Light humectants keep it comfortable.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking pH, viscosity and appearance.
Packaging
Pumps for fluids, droppers for serums, bottles for toners.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.
Range planning
A toner, a serum and a fluid form an oil-control routine.
Sun advice
Light, oil-free sunscreens pair well with the routine.
Preservation
Confirm the preservative system with a challenge test.
Original recipe: oil-control fluid, 100 g
Phase A: water 76.70 g, glycerin 2.00 g, niacinamide 3.00 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g. Phase B: cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate 3.00 g, isoamyl laurate 5.00 g, dimethicone 2.00 g. Heat An and B to 75 °C, emulsify and cool. Phase C below 40 °C: IO Oily and Combination Skin Active 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, silica 2.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, preservative 1.00 g, fragrance 0.10 g, lactic acid solution 1.50 g. Adjust pH to about 5.8.
Routine guidance
Recommend a gentle cleanser morning and evening, the toner, the serum and a light fluid with sunscreen in the morning, and the gel moisturizer at night. Harsh scrubbing and strong alcohol can make oily skin feel irritated, so gentle consistency works better. Several weeks of regular use is the realistic timeframe.
Blemish-prone skin
Keep claims cosmetic: clearer-looking skin and fewer visible blemishes. Use non-comedogenic-tested bases where possible and avoid heavy oils.
Body care
The back and chest can also be oily. A light spray with the active fills a gap many ranges ignore.
Sensory design
Oily skin dislikes films. Test the finish after one hour.
Labeling
Use the INCI from the CoA on the label rather than the trade name.
Gifting
A toner and serum duo suits back-to-school sets.
Storage
Store the container closed in a cool place away from light.
