Description

Illuminyl 388 in short

Illuminyl 388 is a liquid brightening and antioxidant active. It dissolves in water and the supplier specification gives a pH range of 2 to 6. The listed uses are appearance-focused cosmetic and moisturizing face creams, brightening and antioxidant serums, moisturizing and refreshing masks, daily lotions and eye creams and gels for the look of dark circles and puffiness. Confirm the full INCI and dose on the certificate of analysis.

Brightening with antioxidant support

Dullness and uneven tone have several causes, and oxidative stress from sunlight and pollution is one of them. An active that combines brightening with antioxidant support addresses both the color and the freshness of the complexion. The goal is luminous, even-looking skin, not a change in natural skin tone. The number 388 in the name may refer to a wavelength or a grade; check the supplier documentation before using it in communication.

Formats

Brightening serums

Serums are the main format. The wide pH range allows acidic serums with other brightening ingredients.

Face creams and lotions

Daily creams and lotions combine moisture and a luminous finish.

Masks

Refreshing masks give a quick radiance boost.

Eye care

Eye creams and gels for a fresher look of the under-eye area.

How to use it

Add Illuminyl 388 to the water phase below 40 °C and stir until uniform. Keep the final pH between 2 and 6, and lower in that range only if the rest of the formula and the target skin type allow it. Use opaque or airless packaging to protect antioxidants from light and air.

Partners

Radiance concepts combine several brightening routes. EPSILINE adds a spot-focused tone active, and Fision ActiveBright brings a gentle brightener. More brightening concentrates are listed in the actives catalog.

Luminous day lotion recipe, 100 g

Distilled water 74.70 g, cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate 3.00 g, caprylic and capric triglyceride 6.00 g, squalane 2.00 g, glycerin 4.00 g, Illuminyl 388 3.00 g, niacinamide 3.00 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g, tocopheryl acetate 0.50 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, propanediol 2.00 g, sodium citrate solution 0.60 g. Heat both phases to 75 °C, emulsify, cool while stirring, then add Illuminyl 388, niacinamide, tocopheryl acetate and preservative below 40 °C and adjust the pH to about 5.5.

Brightening and antioxidant products work best with daily.

Acidic formulas

The low end of the pH range allows combination with mild acids such as lactic or mandelic acid in exfoliating brightening serums. These products can sting sensitive skin and need clear instructions and sun-protection advice.

Dose guidance

Follow the technical sheet. Serums use the full recommended level, lotions and eye products the middle of the range.

Testing

Chromameter readings, image-based radiance analysis and consumer panels over eight weeks support brightening claims.

Eye area use

The supplier specification lists eye creams and gels. In eye products, use the milder end of the pH range, close to 6, and avoid acids and fragrance. A brightening eye cream with this active and caffeine gives a fresher look to the under-eye area and fits the same range as the serum.

Storage

Store tightly closed, away from heat and light.
