Description

Curcylic 40 in short

Curcylic 40 is a liquid active that dissolves in water. The supplier specification lists hair care, skin care and bath and shower products. The name suggests a turmeric-related component and a salicylic-type component, and the number may refer to a concentration or grade.

The idea behind the name

Turmeric is one of the best-known botanicals in skin care, linked with a brighter, more even-looking complexion and a calming feel. Salicylic chemistry is associated with clarifying care for oily, shine-prone skin and a smoother skin surface. An ingredient combining both stories fits clarifying and balancing concepts for the face, the body and the scalp.

Formats

Body washes

Shower gels for rough-feeling skin on the back and arms can carry the active as a smoothing component.

Skin care for oily skin

Toners and light gels for shine-prone skin are a natural fit, depending on the composition.

Scalp care

Clarifying shampoos and scalp tonics benefit from a balancing active.

How to use it

Add Curcylic 40 to the water phase at cool-down and stir until uniform. Measure the pH of the finished product, since salicylic-type ingredients can lower it. Turmeric-related compounds can add color, so check the appearance of clear products and choose packaging that protects from light.

Partners

Clarifying products often combine balancing and soothing ingredients. Zinc gluconate supports a matte look, and allantoin adds comfort. More concentrates for clarifying care are listed in the actives catalog.

Characteristics

Smoothing body wash recipe, 100 g

Distilled water 52.40 g, sodium laureth sulfate solution 25.00 g, cocamidopropyl betaine 10.00 g, Curcylic 40 2.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, coco glucoside 4.00 g, polyquaternium-7 0.30 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, fragrance 0.50 g, sodium chloride 1.20 g, citric acid solution 0.60 g. Mix the surfactants into the water, add glycerin and polyquaternium-7, then add the active, fragrance and preservative, adjust the pH to about 5.5 and thicken with salt.

Regulatory note

Salicylic acid is regulated in cosmetics in many markets, with maximum levels depending on the product type, and some markets restrict it in products for children. Check the composition of Curcylic 40 and calculate the content of any regulated component in the finished product.

Color and light protection

Turmeric compounds are yellow and sensitive to light. Even small amounts can tint a clear gel. Use opaque packaging or accept a light golden color as part of the product identity.

Dose guidance

Follow the dose in the technical sheet. Start low in leave-on products and higher in rinse-off washes, where contact time is short.

Questions to ask the supplier

Before formulating, ask for the full INCI, the content of each functional component, the pH of the material, the recommended dose for rinse-off and leave-on products and any regulatory statements for your target markets. Ask whether the number 40 refers to a concentration. With these answers you can position the ingredient correctly and avoid claims that do not match the composition. Keep the answers in the product file.

Storage

Store tightly closed in a cool place, away from light.
