Description
DONGBAEK Tsubaki Oil at a glance
DONGBAEK Tsubaki Oil is a camellia seed oil. Dongbaek is the Korean word and tsubaki the Japanese word for the camellia, Camellia japonica, a flowering shrub native to Korea, Japan and China. The supplier lists gels, fluids, creams and balms. It dissolves in oils, triglycerides and polysorbate-80 and is added to the oil phase. Confirm the full INCI, color and odor on the certificate of analysis.
A beauty oil with a long history
Camellia oil has been used in Japan and Korea for centuries. Women of the Japanese court used tsubaki oil to keep their long hair smooth and glossy, and Korean women used dongbaek oil for hair and skin. On Jeju Island in Korea, camellia trees are a symbol of the island. This heritage gives the oil a strong, authentic story in Korean and Japanese beauty concepts.
Light and silky
Camellia oil is rich in oleic acid, a fatty acid that gives a nourishing yet light feel. It absorbs quickly and leaves a silky finish without a greasy film. This makes it suitable for faces that dislike heavy oils and for fine hair. It also has good stability compared with oils rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids.

How to use it
Add the oil to the oil phase of emulsions before emulsification. For clear gels, premix it with polysorbate-80 or another solubilizer before adding it to the water phase. In anhydrous balms and oils, mix it with the other lipids. Add an antioxidant such as tocopherol to protect it.
Partners
Camellia oil blends well with light lipids and antioxidants. Hemisqualane adds a dry-touch feel to face oils, and vitamin E acetate protects the blend. More plant oils are listed among the carrier oils.

Who it is for
Fans of Korean and Japanese beauty, people with fine hair who want shine without weight and those with dry skin who dislike greasy oils form the main audience.
Dose guidance
Follow the technical sheet. Face oils and hair oils can contain a high level, while creams use a moderate level in the oil phase.
Testing
Gloss readings on hair tresses, panel evaluation of absorption and greasiness, and oxidation tests at elevated temperature support silky feel and shine wording.
Camellia in the K-beauty routine
Korean routines often finish with a few drops of oil to seal in the layers of toner, essence and serum. Camellia oil suits this final step because it is light and absorbs fast. It can also be mixed into a cream for extra comfort in winter, or used as a first cleansing oil to dissolve makeup.
Hair use
A drop or two of camellia oil on the ends after styling gives shine and tames flyaways. On damp hair it helps detangling and protects the lengths during blow-drying. Fine hair needs only a very small amount.
Storage
Store tightly closed in a cool, dark place. Keep the container full or flush with nitrogen after opening.
