Description
Willow trees have a long history in natural care. Their bark contains salicylates, and willow bark extracts are popular in clarifying products that want a gentle, plant-based alternative to stronger acids.
Product data
Water-soluble botanical extract. PH range 4.0 to 6.0. Applications from the card: serums, toners, cleansing gels, products for blemish-prone skin, oil-control cosmetics, body cosmetics, clarifying body care and spa care. The exact INCI, plant part, recommended level and any organic certification are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot.
A gentle clarifying story
Willow bark extracts are used for a clarifying, smoothing story without the intensity of concentrated acids. Keep claims cosmetic and do not present the extract as equivalent to salicylic acid unless the supplier documents support it.

Formulating guidance
Add the extract during cool-down into the water phase and keep the finished pH within the listed range. Pair it with niacinamide for oil balance, IO Oily and Combination Skin Active for an oily-skin duo and D-Panthenol for comfort. Ingredients that pair well with this ingredient are collected under botanical extracts.

Original recipe: willow clarifying toner, 100 g
Purified water 85.00 g, IO Botanical Clarifying Extract 4.00 g as an example level per CoA, glycerin 2.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, niacinamide 3.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, allantoin 0.10 g, preservative 0.80 g, sodium citrate solution 1.60 g. Dissolve niacinamide and allantoin in water, add the glycols, the extract, panthenol and preservative. Adjust pH to about 5.0.
Spa use
Spas use clarifying body wraps and back services for clients with oily skin. A body product with the extract fits these services, and a home-use spray lets clients continue between visits. Keep the texture light and fast-drying.
Sun advice
Recommend daily sunscreen with any clarifying routine.
Routine guidance
Cleanser morning and evening, toner after cleansing, serum at night. Introduce slowly and increase if skin feels comfortable.
Labeling
Use the INCI from the CoA, including the solvent, on the label.
Men's care
Men with oily skin like simple toners and sprays with a fresh, woody scent.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
Storage
Store the container closed in a cool place away from light.
