Description

Body care is often formulated with less attention than face care, yet the skin on legs, arms and back can be just as dry and demanding. IO Body Firming Complex, also written Body3 Complex, is an active whose card points to moisturizing creams and lotions, masks and scrubs, with one practical feature that shapes every formula: it disperses in oils and fats, not in water.

Practical properties from the card

Insoluble in water. Disperses well in oil and fat media, making it suitable for oil and cream products. Applications: moisturizing creams and lotions, face and body masks, scrubs and peels, products for dry and sensitive skin, appearance-focused cosmetic cosmetics. The supplier CoA for each lot states the INCI, composition and recommended level.

Formats that suit an oil-dispersible active

Body butter

A whipped butter based on shea and plant oils, with the complex in the lipid base, for very dry skin.

Body lotion

An oil-in-water lotion with the complex in the oil phase, for daily use.

Oil scrub

Sugar or salt scrubs bound with oils. The complex sits in the oil binder and stays on the skin after rinsing as a light film.

Face and body masks

Cream masks with a substantial lipid phase for dry and mature skin.

Formulating guidance

Add the complex to the oil phase before emulsification, or blend it into melted anhydrous bases at moderate temperature, following the CoA for heat tolerance. Stir well to ensure even dispersion. In emulsions, check that the complex does not affect droplet size or stability. Add an antioxidant such as tocopherol to protect unsaturated oils. For lipid partners, consider rice bran oil and water-soluble shea butter for rinse-off products. More body care actives are listed under actives.

Dry and sensitive skin

The card lists products for dry and sensitive skin. Keep formulas short and fragrance-light, use gentle emulsifiers and test tolerance on panelists with dry skin.

Scrubs and peels

Physical scrubs remove dull surface cells; the oil base and the complex leave skin feeling soft afterwards. Advise customers to use scrubs on damp skin with gentle pressure, one to three times a week.

Claims

Use wording such as softer, smoother, more comfortable, nourished-feeling skin. Support claims with tests on the finished product, including hydration measurements a few hours after application.

Who buys body care

Customers with dry legs in winter, people after summer sun, and anyone who likes a self-care ritual at home. Body butters and scrubs are also popular gifts.

Packaging

Jars suit butters and scrubs; pumps suit lotions. For scrubs, a wide-mouth jar with a spatula improves hygiene.

Testing

Run stability at room temperature, 40 °C and in freeze-thaw cycles. Butters can become grainy if cooled too slowly; control cooling speed.

Sensory design for body products

Body products are applied to large areas, often right before dressing, so absorption speed matters. Butters feel luxurious but slow; lotions are quick but lighter. A whipped butter with starch absorbs faster than a dense one, and a lotion with a modest oil phase can still feel rich if the emollients are chosen well. Test on the legs and arms, and ask panelists whether they could put on clothes within a few minutes.

Original recipe: nourishing body butter, 100 g

Shea butter 35.00 g, cocoa butter 10.00 g, sunflower seed oil 20.00 g, rice bran oil 15.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 10.00 g, IO Body Firming Complex 5.00 g as an example level per CoA, arrowroot starch 3.00 g, tocopherol 1.00 g, fragrance 1.00 g. Melt the butters with the oils at about 70 °C, cool to about 45 °C and add the complex, tocopherol and fragrance. Chill until it begins to set, add the starch and whip until light and fluffy.

Storage

Keep the container closed in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
