Description
Gentle cleansing is one of the hardest briefs in cosmetics: rich foam, a clean rinse and skin that does not feel tight afterwards, ideally mild enough for babies. IO Bath Foam Care Ingredient Liquid is a water-soluble ingredient listed for bath foams, shampoos, shower gels, conditioners and baby care.
Product data
Water-soluble. PH range 5.0 to 7.0. Applications from the card: bath foam, hair conditioners, shampoos, shower gel, baby cosmetics and other rinse-off cleansing products. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA and technical sheet of each lot confirms the exact INCI, composition, function and recommended level.
Confirming the function
Ingredients for rinse-off products can act as mild co-surfactants, conditioning agents, foam boosters or mildness enhancers. The supplier documentation states which. Choose where it goes in the formula based on that function.
Product formats
Baby bath
A tear-friendly-feeling, low-fragrance bath foam.
Family shower gel
A mild everyday cleanser.
Gentle shampoo
A shampoo for frequent washing.
Conditioner
A light rinse-off product.
Formulating guidance
Add it to the water phase or into the surfactant blend as the supplier advises, and keep the finished pH between 5.0 and 7.0. Pair it with Polyquaternium-10 for after-feel, D-Panthenol for comfort and glycerin for mildness. In conditioners, IO Conditioning Honey Derivative adds slip. More ingredients are listed under actives.
Baby care design
Baby products need very mild surfactants such as glucosides and amphoterics, no or minimal fragrance, gentle preservatives and tolerance testing under appropriate supervision. Avoid any claim that suggests a health benefit.
Foam testing
Compare foam height, bubble size and rinse feel with and without the ingredient using a simple shake test or a hand-lather panel.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording such as mild, gentle, soft-feeling skin and soft hair. Support mildness claims with tests on the finished product.
Who the products are for
Families, parents of babies and anyone with sensitive skin who showers daily.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking viscosity, clarity, pH and foam.
Packaging
Pump bottles for family products, squeeze bottles for baby bath.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.
Range planning
A baby bath, a family shower gel and a gentle shampoo form a mild care line.
Preservation
Choose mild preservatives and confirm with a challenge test.
Original recipe: gentle baby bath foam, 100 g
Purified water 67.90 g, coco glucoside 12.00 g, cocamidopropyl betaine 10.00 g, IO Bath Foam Care Ingredient Liquid 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, glycerin 3.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, preservative 0.80 g, sodium chloride 1.80 g, citric acid solution 1.00 g. Mix the surfactants into water, add the remaining ingredients and adjust viscosity with salt. Set pH to about 6.0.
Bath foam detail
Bath foams are diluted in a full tub, so foam must form quickly and last. Use a slightly higher surfactant level than in shower gels and test foam in warm water at bath dilution. Add the ingredient after the surfactants and check viscosity, since bath products are often poured from wide-neck bottles.
Conditioner detail
In rinse-off conditioners, add it to the water phase before emulsifying, or during cool-down if the supplier recommends, and check slip on wet hair.
Sensory design
After-feel is what parents notice. Test how skin feels ten minutes after a bath.
Family packs
Large refill pouches suit family shower gels and reduce packaging waste.
Storage
Keep the container closed in a cool place.
