Description
Texture is half of what customers remember about a shower gel or a massage product. IO Water-Phase Gelling Agent Liquid is a water-soluble ingredient whose card lists gelling among its uses, together with shower gels, shampoos, salon hair care, children's products and massage blends.
Product data
Water-soluble, used in the aqueous phase. PH range 6 to 8. Applications from the card: shower gels, shampoos, professional cosmetics for hair, cosmetics for children, gelling agent and massage mixtures. The exact INCI, source, composition and recommended level are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot.
A near-neutral helper
The listed pH range of 6 to 8 fits mild cleansers and children's products, which are usually formulated close to neutral or slightly acidic. Check how viscosity behaves if you lower the pH below 6, since some gelling systems lose body outside their range.
Product formats
Shower gel
A clear or pearly gel with a cushioned texture.
Children's shampoo
A mild, gentle shampoo.
Salon conditioner
A professional rinse-off product.
Massage gel
A gel with slip for body massage.
Hand gel
A light gel with a smooth feel.
Formulating guidance
Add it to the water phase and record viscosity at each step. In cleansers, pair it with Polyquaternium-10 for after-feel and D-Panthenol for comfort. In massage gels, aloe vera gel adds a fresh feel. More ingredients are listed under actives.
Sustainability questions
Palm-derived ingredients raise sourcing questions for many customers. Ask the supplier for certification status and traceability, and use only claims that the documents support.
Children's care
Children's products need mild surfactants, low or no fragrance, gentle preservatives and tolerance testing. A near-neutral helper fits that brief.
Massage blends
Massage products need slip that lasts long enough for a full massage without turning sticky. Test a ten-minute massage and note when the product starts to drag.
Claims
Keep claims to texture and feel unless the supplier documents support more.
Who the products are for
Family brands, spas and salons, and brands that want one helper across cleansers and gels.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking viscosity, clarity and pH.
Packaging
Pump bottles for shower gels and shampoos, tubes for massage and hand gels, professional sizes for salons.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and compare viscosity in a standard test base for each new lot.
Range planning
A shower gel, a children's shampoo and a massage gel can share the ingredient.
Preservation
Confirm the preservative system with a challenge test, especially for children's products.
Original recipe: mild children's shampoo, 100 g
Purified water 68.70 g, coco glucoside 12.00 g, cocamidopropyl betaine 10.00 g, IO Water-Phase Gelling Agent Liquid 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, glycerin 2.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, Polyquaternium-10 0.20 g, preservative 0.80 g, fragrance 0.10 g, sodium chloride 1.50 g, citric acid solution 1.20 g. Disperse the polymer in water, add the surfactants and the remaining ingredients and adjust viscosity with salt. Set pH to about 6.0.
Clear gels
For clear shower or hand gels, check clarity after the ingredient is added and again after a week at 40 °C. Some gelling systems turn slightly hazy over time. A clear reference sample on the shelf helps production compare each batch.
Salon hair care
Professional conditioners and basin products value a stable, pleasant texture batch after batch.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
Storage
Keep the container closed in a cool place.
