Description

About this ingredient

IO Toner Active Powder is a powder that dissolves in water and does not dissolve in oils. The card gives a very wide working pH range, from acidic to alkaline. That flexibility means it can go into acid toners, neutral creams and slightly alkaline cleansers alike. The does not describe the composition, so read the supplier CoA and technical data sheet for the INCI, function and level.

Why the data sheet matters

With ingredients, the data sheet tells you what the material is designed for and what claims the supplier supports.Keep the data sheet with the CoA in the product file.

Product formats

Toners and essences

Clear, water-based toners and essences are easy homes for a water-soluble powder.

Serums and gels

Light serums and gels carry it in the water phase.

Creams

In emulsions, dissolve it in the water phase.

Cleansers and deodorants

The wide pH range allows use in cleansers and deodorants as well.

Processing

Weigh the powder and dissolve it in part of the water phase before adding it to the batch. Stir until clear. Check the final pH.

Partners

Glycerin, Pentylene Glycol and panthenol suit most bases. D-Mannose is another water-soluble powder in our range. Additional powders for the water phase are in the actives catalog.

Testing

Run stability tests in your base and check clarity and pH. Follow any testing advice in the data sheet.

Claims

Use the claims the supplier supports, kept to appearance and feel, such as balanced, comfortable, fresh-feeling skin.

Working with small amounts

Weigh carefully on a precise scale and dissolve the powder in a small amount of water first.

Documentation

Retailers and safety assessors will ask what the ingredient does. Keep the supplier documents ready.

Characteristics

Form: powder. Solubility: water; insoluble in oils. PH range: very wide, acidic to alkaline. Typical products: toners, essences, serums, gels, creams, cleansers, deodorants. INCI, function and level: supplier CoA and data sheet.

Original recipe: balancing toner, 100 g

Distilled water 89.40 g, glycerin 3.00 g, pentylene glycol 3.00 g, IO Toner Active Powder 1.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, betaine 1.00 g, preservative 0.80 g, polysorbate 20 0.50 g, citric acid solution to target pH 0.30 g. Dissolve the powder in part of the water, add the rest and check the pH.

Choosing a base

Because this ingredient works across such a wide pH range, choose the base based on the product's purpose rather than the active. A toner for oily skin might sit slightly acidic, a cream near neutral and a cleanser slightly higher. Test the active in each base and check that it stays dissolved and stable. Note the results so the same active can be used across a whole line, which simplifies purchasing and production.

Starting small

For a new ingredient, start with one product, check stability and feedback, and then extend it to other formats. This approach limits risk and lets the supplier data guide each step.

Lot records

Keep the CoA with each batch and note the lot number on the batch sheet. Compare the powder's appearance with a retained sample.

Supplier support

Ask the supplier for formulation examples. Starting from a tested example saves time and shows how the ingredient is meant to be used, including suggested partners and processing steps.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage tip

Keep the powder container tightly closed between uses.

Storage

Store closed in a dry place. Close the container after use.
