Description

Sun care and color cosmetics share a hidden enemy: oxidation. UV light and air break down oils, filters and pigments over time and can also affect how skin looks after sun exposure. IO Sun Care Antioxidant Oil Active is an ingredient that mixes with cosmetic oils and is listed for sunscreens, after-sun creams, color cosmetics and children's products.

Product data

Fully soluble and miscible with cosmetic oils. PH range 4 to 8. Applications from the card: children's cosmetics, sunscreens, after-sun creams and decorative cosmetics. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA of each lot confirms the exact INCI and recommended level.

Antioxidants in sun care

Antioxidants in sun products are used for two purposes: protecting the formula itself from oxidation and supporting skin care claims around environmental stress. Neither replaces UV filters. Claims must follow testing of the finished product and the supplier documentation.

Product formats

Sunscreen lotion

A daily or beach sun lotion.

After-sun cream

A soothing-feel cream after sun exposure.

Children's sun milk

A gentle sun product for kids.

Lipstick and foundation

Color cosmetics with oil-rich bases.

Formulating guidance

Add it to the oil phase of emulsions or blend it into anhydrous color bases. Pair it with mixed tocopherols for a broader antioxidant system, D-Panthenol in after-sun water phases and aloe vera gel for a cooling feel. More ingredients are listed under actives.

Claims

Use cosmetic wording such as antioxidant care and protected-feeling skin. SPF and UVA claims depend only on standardized testing.

Who the products are for

Sun care brands, family and children's ranges and color cosmetic developers.

Children's sun care

Children's sunscreens often use mineral filters, mild emulsifiers and low or no fragrance. Test tolerance carefully.

Color cosmetics

Oils in lipsticks and foundations can go rancid. An oil-soluble antioxidant helps keep color products fresh during their shelf life.

Testing

Run stability at room temperature, 40 °C and under light, checking color, odor and viscosity. In sunscreens, run SPF and water-resistance tests.

Packaging

Tubes and bottles with UV-protective materials suit sun products.

Batch quality

Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.

Range planning

A sun lotion, an after-sun cream and a children's sun milk form a family sun line.

Original recipe: after-sun comfort cream, 100 g

Phase A: water 66.80 g, glycerin 3.00 g, aloe vera juice 5.00 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g. Phase B: cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate 5.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 8.00 g, shea butter 3.00 g, IO Sun Care Antioxidant Oil Active 1.00 g as an example level per CoA, tocopherol 0.50 g. Heat An and B to 75 °C, emulsify and cool. Phase C below 40 °C: panthenol 2.00 g, bisabolol 0.30 g, menthyl lactate 0.20 g, preservative 1.00 g, fragrance 0.20 g, lactic acid solution 3.80 g. Adjust pH to about 5.5.

Why oxidation matters in sun products

Sun products sit in hot cars and beach bags and are exposed to light every time they are opened. Oils and some filters oxidize faster in these conditions, which can change smell and color. An oil-soluble antioxidant helps the product stay fresh through the summer. Test aged samples after heat and light exposure to confirm.

Lip care

Lip balms with sun protection combine oils, waxes and filters. An antioxidant protects the oils and fits a sun care story.

Labeling

Use the INCI from the CoA on the label rather than the trade name, and list it in the correct order of weight.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage

Keep the container closed in a cool place.
