Description

This ingredient at a glance

The supplier data sheet is therefore the main guide to what the ingredient does and which products it suits.

A wide pH window

A pH range of 5.0 to 8.5 covers almost all leave-on skincare. Slightly acidic creams, neutral gels and mildly alkaline products can all hold the concentrate. This flexibility simplifies formulation, since the base can be designed around other ingredients.

Product formats

Creams

Day and night creams.

Gels

Light water-based gels.

Serums

Concentrated serums.

Lotions

Fluid face and body lotions.

Processing

Add the concentrate to the water phase during cool-down, below about 40 °C, and avoid prolonged heat. Check the pH after adding it and keep it within 5.0 to 8.5, or within the narrower range the supplier may recommend.

Good partners

Until the supplier confirms the purpose, a neutral base works best. Niacinamide, Ceramide NP and glycerin build a gentle, widely compatible cream. Browse more in the actives catalog.

Testing

Compare batches with and without the active at several temperatures for three months. Ask the supplier for efficacy data before making claims.

Claims

Base claims on supplier data; until then, focus on texture and feel.

Characteristics

Form: colorless to light yellow translucent liquid. INCI: propanediol, water, saccharide isomerate. Use level: 2 to 5% (2% typical). PH: 5.0 to 8.5. Positioning: mature and menopausal skin care.

Original recipe: daily balance cream, 100 g

Distilled water 70.40 g, glycerin 4.00 g, Saccharide Isomerate Liquid 3.00 g, niacinamide 2.00 g, caprylic capric triglyceride 7.00 g, squalane 3.00 g, glyceryl stearate citrate 4.50 g, cetearyl alcohol 2.50 g, xanthan gum 0.30 g, ceramide NP 0.10 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, tocopherol 0.50 g, panthenol 1.70 g. Emulsify the heated phases with ceramide melted into the oils, cool below 40 °C, add niacinamide, panthenol, Saccharide Isomerate Liquid and the preservative, then check the pH. Adjust Saccharide Isomerate Liquid level to the CoA.

Questions for the supplier

Ask for the full INCI, the active content, the recommended level for each product type, the mode of action and any clinical or in vitro data. Keep the answers with the product file.

Fitting the active into a range

Once its purpose is confirmed, choose the hero product, such as a serum or cream, and build supporting products around it.

Directions for users

Write directions matched to the final format, for example morning and evening after cleansing.

Record keeping

Note the concentrate lot, the pH and the viscosity of each batch.

Lot records

Keep each CoA with the batch file and note the lot used.

Trial plan

Because the pH window is wide, try the concentrate in two bases: a slightly acidic cream around pH 5.5 and a neutral gel around pH 7. Compare stability and skin feel after one month. This shows which format suits it best before investing in a full range.

Sensory check

Ask testers to rate absorption, stickiness and comfort right after application and after ten minutes.

Preservation

Run a challenge test on the final formula.

Packaging

Airless pumps keep water-based actives clean and limit air contact.

Menopausal skin

Skin going through menopause often feels drier and looks less firm. Present the product as comforting, firming-feel care.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage

Store closed as the CoA directs. Close the container after use.
