Description
Some trade names carry a lot of history. IO Placental Protein Extract Liquid belongs to a family of ingredients with a long tradition in European and Asian cosmetics, positioned for mature skin and for a fresher, smoother look.
Origin and documentation
The alone does not tell you whether the material is of plant, biotechnological or other origin. The exact INCI, origin and active content are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot. Read it before you write the ingredient list or make statements about vegan, halal or animal-free status, and keep a copy in your product information file.
Specifications from the card
Liquid, water-soluble. The active works in a pH range from 5.0 to 6.5. Applications: appearance-focused cosmetic and anti-wrinkle products, moisturizers, protective and restoring-feel products, even-tone products and hair products.
Product ideas
Mature skin cream
A day or night cream with the active, humectants and barrier lipids for smoother-looking, more comfortable skin.
Serum
A light serum with the active and hyaluronic acid as a first step in an appearance-focused cosmetic routine.
Even-tone fluid
A fluid with the active and niacinamide for a more uniform-looking complexion.
Hair care
Conditioners and hair serums for softer, healthier-looking hair.
Formulating guidance
Add this ingredient to the water phase during cool-down. The card gives 5.0 to 6.5 as the working range, so set the finished pH inside it. Combine it with a hydration base and, for a peptide angle, with palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7. For an even-tone partner, add niacinamide. More concentrates for mature skin are listed under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording: smoother-looking, more hydrated, fresher-looking and more even-looking skin. Avoid cosmetic appearance wording, which is not appropriate for a cosmetic. Support claims with tests on the finished product.
Communication about the name
Some customers react strongly to the word placenta. Be transparent: explain the origin as stated on the CoA and why the ingredient was chosen. If the origin is plant-based, say so clearly; if not, provide the information honestly.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking pH, odor and color. Biological materials can have a characteristic odor, so test fragrance coverage.
Quality records
Record the lot number from each CoA and keep retained samples. Because origin matters for labeling, file the origin statement for each lot.
Range planning
A mature skin line with a serum, a day cream and a night cream using the active keeps the concept clear. Add a hair conditioner if your brand covers hair care.
Texture and sensory design
Mature skin often feels drier and benefits from a richer, cushioned texture at night and a lighter, quick-absorbing feel in the morning. Build a night cream with plant butters and squalane, and a day fluid with light esters, both carrying the same active. Avoid heavy fragrance, which can be unwelcome on drier, more delicate-feeling skin. Test spreading on the face and neck and ask panelists how comfortable the skin feels the next morning.
