Description
PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica at a glance
PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica is a plant cell culture active from Switzerland. Its INCI is Malus Domestica Fruit Cell Culture Extract, Xanthan Gum, Glycerin, Lecithin, Phenoxyethanol, Water. It is a cloudy liquid with a pH of about 7.4, preserved with Germall Plus at 0.2%. It is used at 2 to 5% of the finished product and added to the active phase below 40 °C. In marketing it is widely known as apple stem cells.
The apple cosmetic active story
Plants have special cells, often called stem cells, that can multiply and form new tissue. Scientists can take these cells from a plant and grow them in culture. PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica is made this way, from the tissue of the apple fruit, Malus domestica. The cell culture is grown in the lab, so no orchards are harvested, and the extract is made from the cultured cells.
How it is built
The cell culture extract is held in liposomes made of lecithin, a natural phospholipid. Xanthan gum stabilizes the dispersion, and glycerin supports hydration. This liposomal system helps distribute the extract evenly in creams and serums.
What it does
The supplier lists four benefits: it helps the depth of wrinkles look reduced, protects the skin, gives a younger look and supports skin hydration. The cosmetic active story is one of the best known appearance-focused cosmetic concepts in modern skin care, and the apple version is the original that made the idea popular.
How to formulate
Add PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica to the active phase below 40 °C. Do not heat it, because the liposomes are sensitive to high temperature. The product has a pH of about 7.4; check the pH of the finished product after adding it, ideally at about 5.5 to 6.5. Avoid very high levels of alcohol or strong surfactants, which can break liposomes. For a complete appearance-focused cosmetic serum, combine it with adenosine and hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate. More appearance-focused cosmetic actives are listed in the cosmetic actives section.
Product ideas
appearance-focused cosmetic serums, eye creams, firming day creams, night creams, sheet masks, neck creams and premium ampoules are the main uses.
Sample recipe: apple cosmetic active serum, 100 g
Distilled water 84.00 g, PhytoCellTec Malus Domestica 4.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, adenosine 0.10 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.80 g, hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate 0.20 g, panthenol 1.00 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution 2.90 g. Disperse the cellulose in the water, add glycerin, propanediol, adenosine, hyaluronate and panthenol, cool below 40 °C, add PhytoCellTec and the preservative, and adjust to about pH 5.5.
Storytelling
Few ingredients have a story as strong as apple stem cells: a familiar fruit, Swiss origin and modern cell culture technology. Use this story on the pack and in marketing, with claims kept visual and cosmetic.
Dosing
Daily creams and lotions use 2 to 3%. Intensive serums, eye creams and premium ampoules use 4 to 5%. Because it is an active phase ingredient, weigh it separately and add it as one of the last steps.
Eye and neck care
The eye area and neck are where the first lines often show. A light eye gel or a neck cream with 3 to 5% of the apple cell extract and a hydrating base is a classic concept for a youthful, smoother look.
Claims
Speak of wrinkles that look less deep, skin that looks younger and better hydrated, and protection against daily stress.
Safety notes
The supplier asks for a sensitivity test of the finished product, for example a test application on the inner elbow.
Storage
Store in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
