Description

About Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate

Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate is sodium hyaluronate that has been split into shorter chains by hydrolysis. Standard sodium hyaluronate is a very long polymer that thickens water strongly. After hydrolysis the fragments are much smaller, so the powder dissolves quickly, builds little viscosity and feels light on skin and hair. This page sells it as a fine powder by the gram. Our product record lists it as soluble in water. Molecular weight range and exact specification are printed on the CoA for each lot.

Properties

Short-chain hyaluronic acid is chosen for its light, non-sticky finish and for the ease of adding it to thin products such as toners and mists. It complements long-chain grades in multi-weight formulas. Consumers recognize the name hyaluronic acid immediately, and the word hydrolyzed signals a modern, layered approach to hydration. On the scalp and hair it gives moisture without weighing the hair down.

Applications

The record lists skin serums, creams and emulsions, toners, essences, masks, body lotions, moisturizing gels, restorative products, hair moisturizers and scalp tonics. Popular finished goods include hydrating essences, sheet mask fluids, gel creams, hair mists and leave-in scalp sprays. It combines well with Hyaluronic acid liquid 1% and with Low Molecular Weight Hyaluronic Acid 10-20 kDa. Browse related ingredients in our hydrolysates catalog.

How to dissolve and add it

Sprinkle the powder onto the surface of water while stirring and mix until the solution is clear; it hydrates faster than long-chain grades. You can also premix it with glycerin to avoid any lumps. Add it to the water phase at room temperature or during cool-down. Avoid long, intensive heating. Follow the CoA for the use level; short-chain grades are usually used at fractions of a percent.

Using it in hair care

Hair mists and leave-in sprays benefit from humectants that do not leave a film. A small amount of hydrolyzed sodium hyaluronate gives moisture and softness without stickiness. Combine it with panthenol and a light conditioning agent, keep ethanol low and choose a fine-mist sprayer. In scalp tonics, it adds a fresh, hydrated feel next to peptides and botanical actives.

Compatibility

The powder is compatible with glycerin, panthenol, niacinamide, amino acids, peptides, plant extracts and most thickeners. Strong acids, oxidizers and enzymes can degrade it further. Cationic ingredients may interact, so test clarity with conditioning polymers. In surfactant products, add it at the end. In sheet mask fluids, where the fabric soaks up a large volume of liquid, the low viscosity of the hydrolyzed grade helps the fluid spread evenly through the sheet, and a little long-chain hyaluronic acid can be added for slip.

Original recipe: hydrating hair and scalp mist, 100 g

Phase A: distilled water 92.20 g, glycerin 2.00 g, panthenol 1.50 g. Sprinkle in Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate 0.20 g and stir until clear. Phase B: polyquaternium-10 0.10 g predispersed in part of the water, betaine 2.00 g. Phase C: PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil 0.40 g premixed with fragrance 0.10 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution to pH about 5.0, water 0.50 g. Mix and fill into a fine-mist spray bottle.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage

Keep the powder sealed in a cool, dry place, away from humidity. Close the container right after weighing. Ships from Florida in gram packs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does hydrolyzed mean here?

The long hyaluronic chains have been broken into shorter fragments by hydrolysis, giving a lighter feel and low viscosity.

Is it water-soluble?

Yes. Sprinkle it into water while stirring until clear.

Which products is it used in?

Serums, creams, toners, essences, masks, body lotions, gels, hair moisturizers and scalp tonics.

Why is it in the hydrolysates category?

Because it is produced by hydrolysis, like protein hydrolysates, it is grouped with them in our catalog.
