Description
Oil serums have become a staple of skincare routines. They feel luxurious, carry oil-soluble actives without emulsifiers and suit dry and mature skin especially well. IO Oil-Soluble Lipid Active is an oil-soluble lipid active designed for these formats, with a name associated in the market with bakuchiol.
About bakuchiol
Bakuchiol is a plant compound found in the seeds of Psoralea corylifolia. It has become popular in skincare as a gentle ingredient often positioned near retinol for smoother-looking skin, with a reputation for good tolerance. This ingredient presents a lipid-based ingredient associated with this compound. The exact INCI, bakuchiol content if any, and carrier oils are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot. Use that document for the label and for claims.
Specifications from the card
Liquid, soluble in oil. Applications: facial serums, creams and emulsions, oil serums, products for sensitive skin; body creams, lotions and care oils; hair serums and scalp care; professional appearance-focused cosmetic concentrates and intensive programs; SPA and natural care.
Product formats
Facial oil serum
The simplest format: the lipid active blended with light oils and an antioxidant.
Night cream
Add the active to the oil phase of a cushioned emulsion for dry and mature skin.
Body care oil
A dry-touch body oil with a natural, plant-based story.
Hair and scalp
Light hair serums for shine and smoothness on the lengths, and scalp oils for pre-wash massage.
Formulating guidance
Add this ingredient to the oil phase. In emulsions it can be added to the oil phase before emulsification if the CoA allows heating, or to the cooled emulsion with good mixing. In anhydrous products, blend it at room temperature. Add an antioxidant such as tocopherol to protect unsaturated lipids. Light and air protection matters, so use opaque or airless packaging. Partners include rosehip seed oil and, if you want a bakuchiol reference product to compare, our bakuchiol listing. More lipid actives are listed under actives.
Sensitive skin products
The card lists sensitive skin among the applications. Keep these products fragrance-free and short, and test them on sensitive panelists.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording: smoother-looking, softer, more radiant-looking skin; shinier, smoother hair. Support claims with tests on the finished product. If you mention bakuchiol, do so only when the CoA confirms its presence.
Who it suits
Customers who want a plant-based routine, those who find retinoids uncomfortable and those who prefer oils to creams. Clear communication about the plant origin and the gentle character is the key to this audience.
Quality control
Record the lot from the CoA, check odor and color of each delivery and keep a retained sample. Lipid materials can oxidize; a rancid note is a sign that the material or the finished product has been exposed to too much air or heat.
Sensory profile and blending
Oil serums are judged by feel within seconds. Light esters and squalane give a quick, dry finish; jojoba adds a satin feel; richer seed oils add cushion but slow absorption. Start with a light base and add richer oils in small steps until the serum feels nourishing without leaving a shine after ten minutes. Dark glass or airless bottles keep the active protected and look premium on shelf.
Original recipe: plant-based night oil, 100 g
Squalane 35.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 30.00 g, jojoba oil 15.00 g, rosehip seed oil 10.00 g, IO Oil-Soluble Lipid Active 8.00 g as an example level per CoA, tocopherol 1.00 g, bisabolol 0.50 g, oil-soluble fragrance-free plant extract 0.50 g. Combine all oils at room temperature, add tocopherol and bisabolol, then the active, and stir until uniform. Fill into amber dropper or airless bottles.
Storage
Keep tightly closed in a cool, dark place. Minimize headspace and reseal immediately after use.
