Description
This ingredient in short
IO Vegetable Lipid Base is an oil-soluble liquid that the card places in skin care, hair care and body care. Its role is about the skin surface: the record notes that around two percent in skin care helps skin look hydrated and reduces water loss from the surface, the effect usually described as lower TEWL. It also appears in hair and body oils, in personal hygiene products such as shampoo and shower gel, and in conditioners. The supplier CoA carries the full INCI for each lot.
Why an oil-phase ingredient for moisture
Moisture products often focus on humectants in the water phase, yet the oil phase does half of the job. Lipids on the surface slow down evaporation and keep skin feeling supple for longer. An oil-soluble ingredient with a stated effect on water loss gives a brand a clear second pillar for a hydration story, next to glycerin or hyaluronic acid.
Applications from the card
Creams and lotions
In emulsions this ingredient goes into the oil phase with the emollients and waxes. The card's reference of about two percent gives a practical starting point for development trials, and the finished pH should stay between 4.0 and 7.0.
Hair and body oils
Anhydrous oils are an easy format. This ingredient blends with plant oils and esters and adds to the cared-for feel of a body oil or a hair oil used on lengths and ends.
Shampoos, shower gels and conditioners
The card also lists rinse-off products. In surfactant systems an oil-soluble ingredient usually needs a solubilizer or a pearl base to stay evenly dispersed, so pilot the clarity and stability before scaling up.
Process notes
Weigh this ingredient into the oil phase and heat it with the other lipids when you make a hot emulsion. For cold blends, stir it into the oils until uniform. In surfactant products, premix it with a suitable solubilizer before adding it to the base. Check pH at the end.
Partners in the formula
Plant oils such as Unrefined Tomato Seed Oil, esters, squalane and shea butter all combine well with it. In the water phase, humectants such as glycerin complete the moisture picture. More oil-phase ingredients are gathered in our actives catalog, and Membrane-Lipid Complex is another oil-soluble option for barrier-themed creams.
Talking about results
Shoppers understand words such as supple, comfortable and less dry. If you have a simple instrumental test of water loss on the finished product, it can support a claim about helping skin hold on to moisture. Otherwise keep to how skin looks and feels after use.
Characteristics
Form: liquid. Solubility: oils. PH range of finished product: 4.0 to 7.0. Card note: about two percent in skin care for a hydrated look and lower water loss. Listed uses: skin care, hair and body oils, shampoo, shower gel, conditioners. INCI: supplier CoA.
Original recipe: supple body oil, 100 g
Caprylic/capric triglyceride 40.00 g, sunflower seed oil 30.00 g, squalane 15.00 g, IO Vegetable Lipid Base 2.00 g, unrefined tomato seed oil 10.00 g, tocopherol 0.50 g, fragrance 2.50 g. Combine all ingredients at room temperature, stir until clear and uniform, and fill into bottles with a pump.
Stability and feel testing
Oil-phase ingredients can change how an emulsion looks and spreads, so a short trial is worthwhile. Make two small batches of the same cream, one with this ingredient and one without, and compare spreading, gloss and after-feel with a few testers. Store both in a warm cabinet for several weeks and check for separation or changes in odor. In body oils, check clarity after a night in the fridge. Keep the CoA of each lot with the batch record, and copy the full INCI from it into your label file before printing packs.
Storage
Store closed in a cool place away from light. Keep the container upright and close it right after use.
