Description
Skin keeps itself supple with a natural mix of small, water-loving molecules in its outer layer. Moisturizing complexes copy that idea by blending several humectants instead of relying on one. IO Moisturizing Complex is a liquid complex of this kind, listed for face, hand and hair care.
Product data
Liquid, soluble in water and alcohols, pH range 3 to 10. Applications from the card: moisturizing creams, moisturizing serums and balms, protective creams for face and hands, hair care cosmetics and hair care products for damaged-looking hair. The exact INCI and composition are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot.
Why a complex
Different humectants hold water in different ways and feel different on the skin. A blend can give hydration without the tackiness that a single high-level humectant may cause. The wide pH tolerance listed on the card also means the complex can follow a formula from an acidic toner to a neutral cream.
Product formats
Moisturizing cream
A daily cream with comfortable, lasting hydration.
Hand cream
A protective hand cream for frequent washing and cold weather.
Serum
A light serum that layers under moisturizer.
Hair conditioner
A rinse-off conditioner that keeps lengths feeling soft.
Leave-in for damaged-looking hair
A spray that adds moisture after washing.
Formulating guidance
Add the complex to the water phase and check the finished pH. Its alcohol solubility makes it suitable for fresh toners and sprays with some ethanol. Pair it with high molecular weight hyaluronic acid for a surface film, D-Panthenol for comfort and hydrolyzed keratin in hair products. More moisturizing actives are listed under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording: hydrated, soft, supple skin; moisturized, smooth hair. Support numbers with hydration measurements on the finished product.
Texture tuning
Humectant blends can add tack at higher levels. If a cream feels sticky, lower the level slightly or add a light emollient.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking pH, viscosity and odor.
Packaging
Tubes for hand creams, airless pumps for face creams, spray bottles for leave-ins.
Range planning
A moisture line with a face cream, a hand cream and a hair conditioner can share the complex and one recognizable claim.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.
Original recipe: protective hand cream, 100 g
Phase A: water 69.30 g, glycerin 4.00 g, IO Moisturizing Complex 4.00 g as an example level per CoA, xanthan gum 0.20 g. Phase B: glyceryl stearate and PEG-100 stearate 5.00 g, cetearyl alcohol 3.00 g, shea butter 4.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 5.00 g, dimethicone 2.00 g. Heat An and B to 75 °C, emulsify and cool. Phase C below 40 °C: panthenol 1.50 g, allantoin 0.20 g, preservative 1.00 g, fragrance 0.30 g, lactic acid solution 0.50 g. Adjust pH to about 5.5.
Who the products are for
Hand creams with the complex suit people who wash their hands often, such as parents, healthcare workers and cooks, and anyone who suffers from dry hands in winter. The face cream and serum fit customers who feel tightness after cleansing. In hair care, the conditioner and leave-in serve customers with bleached, colored or curly hair that loses moisture quickly.
Seasonal positioning
Moisturizing complexes fit seasonal campaigns. A winter edition hand cream, a summer after-sun lotion and a travel-size face cream can all use the same complex. This keeps purchasing simple while giving marketing a reason to launch new products during the year.
Alcohol-based formats
Because the complex dissolves in alcohols, it can be added to refreshing hand gels and body sprays that contain some ethanol to soften their drying effect.
Storage
Keep it closed in a cool place away from light.
