Description
Plants in the boreal zone, the band of northern forests and wetlands that circles the subarctic, live through long winters, short summers and dry, cold winds. Their ability to cope with these conditions has inspired a group of cosmetic actives. IO Moisturizer Active Liquid is a water-soluble liquid active from this theme, positioned for hydration and for very dry and sensitive skin.
Product data
Liquid, water-soluble, pH 3.0 to 6.0. Applications: moisturizers, moisturizing products for sensitive skin, products for very dry skin and appearance-focused cosmetic care. The exact INCI, botanical source and recommended level are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot. Use that document for the ingredient list and for any statements about the plant origin.
Product formats
Daily moisturizer
A light to medium cream for everyday hydration, with the active and a humectant base.
Sensitive skin hydration
Fragrance-free gels and creams with a short ingredient list.
Very dry skin cream
A richer cream that combines the active with barrier lipids such as ceramides and plant butters.
appearance-focused cosmetic care
Hydration is the foundation of any appearance-focused cosmetic product. The active can sit alongside peptides and antioxidants.
Formulating guidance
Add the active during cool-down into the water phase. Its pH range of 3.0 to 6.0 suits most skin care products; check the finished pH after addition. Combine it with humectants such as glycerin and betaine, and with barrier lipids such as ceramide NP for very dry skin. More hydration concentrates are listed under actives.
Nordic storytelling
Boreal forests evoke clean air, snow and resilience. Use these images in branding but keep claims grounded in the finished product: long-lasting hydration, comfortable, soft and smooth skin. Avoid statements about the plant's own survival mechanisms being transferred to skin.
Testing hydration
Instrumental hydration measurements before application and after several hours give objective support. Combine them with consumer questionnaires about comfort and tightness.
Winter positioning
Hydration products sell strongly in cold months. Position the product for winter comfort, ski trips and dry indoor heating. A travel-size tube is useful for outdoor activities.
Sensitive skin considerations
For sensitive skin products, choose gentle emulsifiers, leave out fragrance and keep the formula short. Test on panelists who describe their skin as sensitive.
Batch documentation
Record the lot number from the CoA, check the color and odor of each delivery and keep a retained sample. Plant-based actives can vary slightly between harvests.
Building the hydration system
A good moisturizer works on two levels: humectants draw and hold water, while lipids slow its loss from the surface. This ingredient belongs to the water phase, so pair it with a well-chosen lipid phase. For very dry skin, use plant butters, squalane and a ceramide; for sensitive skin, keep the lipid phase simple and avoid heavy fragrance. Measure hydration at several time points to see how long the effect lasts in the finished product.
