Description

Marine collagen has become one of the most recognizable ingredients in skincare marketing, appearing on serums, creams and masks across every price level. IO Hydrolyzed Marine Collagen Liquid is a liquid ingredient in this group, notable for how easily it blends with water, alcohol and glycols.

Origin and identity

Marine collagen is obtained from fish sources, often skin or scales. In cosmetics it acts at the skin surface: it forms a soft film, binds moisture and gives a smoother feel. The exact INCI, collagen content, molecular characteristics and source are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot. Because the origin is animal, brands targeting vegan audiences should choose a different ingredient.

Specifications from the card

Liquid. It dissolves in water, alcohol, propylene glycol, pentylene glycol, glycerin and related solvents. Applications: creams, serums and care cosmetics.

Why solubility matters

Many protein ingredients cloud in alcohol or glycols. A collagen that stays compatible with these solvents can be used in clear serums, toners with a modest alcohol content and lightweight gels, as well as in emulsions. It also simplifies cold-process work.

Product ideas

Collagen serum

A clear serum with marine collagen, a hyaluronic acid and a humectant gives a plump, smooth feel.

Day and night creams

Collagen adds a cushioned surface to emulsions and supports a firmness-oriented story.

Sheet and gel masks

Masks with collagen are popular for quick hydration before events.

Eye gels

A light gel with collagen and caffeine for a smoother, fresher-looking eye area.

Formulating guidance

Add the liquid during cool-down. Check clarity in transparent products. Protein-based ingredients can support microbial growth, so use a robust preservative system. A related liquid collagen in our catalog is IO Collagen Amino Acid Complex Liquid, and marine collagen is also available. Browse other conditioning concentrates under actives.

Honest collagen claims

Topical collagen works on the surface. Describe results as smoother, softer, more hydrated-feeling and plumper-looking skin. Avoid suggesting that the product replaces or adds to the skin's own collagen.

Marine branding

Ocean imagery, blue tones and simple copy about the marine origin support the product. Mention the source accurately and keep sustainability statements to what the supplier documents confirm.

Testing

Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C for several weeks, checking odor, color and clarity. Marine materials can have a faint characteristic odor; test fragrance coverage at the intended level.

Quality records

Record the lot number from each CoA, note appearance and odor on arrival and keep a retained sample. If a finished serum becomes hazy over time, compare lots before changing the formula.

Range planning

A marine collagen line might include a serum, a day cream and an eye gel. Using the same collagen across all three keeps the message consistent and simplifies purchasing.
