Description

This ingredient at a glance

Hydrolyzed Collagen Solution 50% is a water-soluble liquid active concentrate. Its INCI is water and hydrolyzed collagen, and a practical starting level is 1 to 5% as the CoA directs. The card describes it as moisturizing and good at retaining moisture, with a lifting effect and smoother-looking fine lines. Listed targets are age-defying care, fine hair, mature skin and dry skin.

Collagen in cosmetics

Collagen and collagen-derived ingredients are large proteins or protein fragments. In cosmetics they form a smooth, moisturizing film on the skin surface, which helps hold water and gives an immediate feeling of smoothness and tension. On hair, they add body and a smoother feel, which is especially useful for fine hair.

Product formats

Creams for mature skin

Rich creams with a lifting feel.

Moisturizers for dry skin

Creams and lotions that retain moisture.

Serums

Water-based serums with a smoothing film.

Hair care for fine hair

Conditioners and leave-in sprays that add body.

Processing

Add the concentrate to the water phase during cool-down and avoid prolonged heat, which can affect proteins. Mix gently to limit foaming.

Good partners

Marine collagen is a related ingredient. Hydrolyzed keratin suits fine-hair products, and Hyaluronic filling spheres add a plumping story. Browse more in the actives catalog.

Testing

Measure skin hydration and the immediate tightening feel with a panel. Check odor and clarity over time.

Claims

Deep moisture; skin looks lifted and smoother; fine hair feels fuller.

Characteristics

Form: water-soluble liquid. INCI: water, hydrolyzed collagen. Use level: 1 to 5% per CoA. Card description: moisturizes, retains moisture, lifting, smooths fine lines; for age-defying care, fine hair, mature skin, dry skin.

Original recipe: lifting face serum, 100 g

Distilled water 86.30 g, glycerin 4.00 g, Hydrolyzed Collagen Solution 50% 5.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.30 g, trehalose 1.50 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, citric acid 0.40 g, sodium citrate 0.50 g. Pre-wet the hyaluronate in glycerin, add to the water, dissolve trehalose and panthenol, add the collagen concentrate and preservative and adjust the pH. Adjust the concentrate level to the CoA.

Foaming

Protein solutions foam easily. Stir slowly and avoid high-speed mixing after adding the concentrate.

Animal or marine source

Collagen can come from different sources. Ask the supplier about the source so the label and marketing can describe it correctly.

Lab tip

Weigh the concentrate last and mix it in slowly.

Lot records

Keep each CoA with the batch file and note the lot used.

Fine hair care

Fine hair often looks flat because it lacks body. A light leave-in spray or conditioner with a collagen concentrate adds a soft film that makes each strand feel thicker without weighing it down. Keep oils to a minimum in these products and use a light conditioning agent.

Directions for users

For face serums, suggest applying morning and evening after cleansing. For hair sprays, mist onto towel-dried hair before styling.

Supplier data

Ask for the protein content, the source and the preservative used in the concentrate, and keep them with the product file.

Record keeping

Record the concentrate lot and the odor of each batch, since protein ingredients can vary slightly in scent.

Choosing the level

Start around the middle of the supplier range and compare two levels side by side in the same base.

Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.

Storage

Store closed as the CoA directs. Close the container after use.
