Description
Marine collagen hydrolysate explained
Marine collagen hydrolysate is a liquid protein ingredient that dissolves in water. The supplier specification describes it as moisturizing and good at holding moisture, with a lifting look and smoother-looking fine lines. It names mature skin, dry skin and fine hair as the main targets, and gives a mildly acidic pH for the liquid itself. Each lot ships with a CoA that confirms the full INCI and the level to use.
What hydrolysis changes
Collagen in its intact form is a large protein. Hydrolysis breaks it into smaller pieces, which dissolve easily, feel lighter and leave less of a tacky film. For formulators, that means the ingredient mixes into thin serums and sprays without thickening them, and it suits products that need a clean finish.
Skin care for mature and dry skin
Serums
A light serum with the hydrolysate, hyaluronic acid and glycerin is the simplest product. It gives a smooth, moisturized feel and supports a firmer-looking skin story.
Creams
A rich night cream suits dry and mature skin. Combine the hydrolysate in the water phase with plant oils and butters in the oil phase for a cushiony texture.
Eye products
Fine lines around the eyes are a key concern for mature-skin shoppers. A light eye gel or cream with the hydrolysate fits well; test eye-area comfort carefully.
Fine hair
Fine hair is easily weighed down by heavy conditioners. A light protein spray or a thin conditioner with the hydrolysate helps fine hair feel fuller and smoother without flattening it.
Processing
Add the liquid to the water phase below 40 °C. Stir until uniform and check the pH of the finished product. Take the use level from the supplier documentation for your lot.
Partners
Peptides, panthenol, betaine and Natural Moisturizing Factor build a strong moisture and firming-look story. Marine Collagen can be used in the same line for a two-protein message. Our hydrolysates catalog lists more protein ingredients.
Testing
Protein liquids are good food for microbes, so test preservation carefully. Run warm-cabinet tests and watch color and odor. For skin claims, a panel that rates smoothness and moisture after four weeks is a practical start.
Claims
Keep the wording visual and sensory: skin that feels moisturized, looks smoother and firmer, with softened-looking fine lines; fine hair that feels fuller and lighter. The marine origin adds an easy, memorable story.
Line planning
For a mature-skin line, a serum, a night cream and an eye gel make a complete routine around one protein. For hair, a volumizing spray for fine hair can be a separate product with its own audience. Keep the packaging consistent so shoppers connect the products, and lead with the serum, which usually sells best.
Quality notes
Ask the supplier for origin information on the marine source and keep it with the CoA. If a new lot looks darker or smells stronger, check it in a small test batch before production.

Original recipe: marine smoothing night serum, 100 g
Distilled water 83.00 g, glycerin 4.00 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.30 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g, marine collagen hydrolysate 5.00 g, natural moisturizing factor 3.00 g, panthenol 1.50 g, betaine 1.50 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution to target pH 0.50 g. Hydrate the gums in water with glycerin, add the rest below 40 °C and mix.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
