Description
Fine hair is one of the most common hair complaints. It goes flat within hours, gets weighed down by rich conditioners and looks thinner than it is. Hair Magic Volume is a trade-name liquid concentrate made for the products that fine-haired customers buy: volume shampoos, light conditioners and volume sprays.
Product data
Liquid, water-soluble. Applications: shampoos, conditioners, masks, balms, volume sprays and hair products. The supplier specification recommends adding it to the water phase during cool-down and avoiding prolonged high heat. For the INCI and active content, rely on the lot-specific CoA from the supplier.
Formulating for volume
Volume products avoid heavy oils and silicones that flatten hair. They use light conditioning agents, film-forming polymers that add body and proteins that make strands feel thicker. The concentrate fits into this approach as the hero active of the line.
Product formats
Volume shampoo
A clarifying yet gentle shampoo that leaves the roots light.
Light conditioner
A conditioner applied to the lengths only, with minimal oil.
Volume spray
A leave-in spray applied at the roots before blow-drying.
Mask and balm
A light mask for weekly care that does not weigh hair down.
Formulating guidance
Add the concentrate during cool-down below 40 °C. Combine with Polyquaternium-11 for body and hold, hydrolyzed keratin for a thicker feel and D-Panthenol for shine. More hair actives are listed under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording: fuller-looking hair, more body and bounce, lift at the roots. Support claims with panel or instrumental tests on the finished product, such as volume measurements on tresses.
Styling advice
Volume products work best with the right technique. Recommend applying the spray at the roots, blow-drying upside down and finishing with a cool shot. Simple instructions on the label improve results.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C. For sprays, check spray pattern and clogging. For shampoos, check viscosity and foam.
Packaging
Fine-mist pumps for sprays, standard bottles for shampoos and conditioners, jars or tubes for masks.
Range planning
A volume line with a shampoo, a conditioner and a root spray is the classic offer. A dry shampoo can extend it.
Batch quality
Record the lot number from the CoA and keep retained samples.
Fine hair and conditioning
The biggest risk in volume lines is over-conditioning. Keep conditioners light, apply them to the lengths only and rinse thoroughly. In shampoos, choose mild surfactants that clean well without stripping. Test the finished line on fine-haired panelists and ask them to rate root lift and how long the volume lasts during the day, which is the result customers care about most.
Seasonal notes
Humidity flattens fine hair and makes volume harder to keep. In summer, recommend the root spray with a light hold. In winter, static can be a problem, so a light conditioner and a little panthenol in the spray help keep hair smooth while preserving lift.
Original recipe: root volume spray, 100 g
Purified water 89.30 g, propanediol 3.00 g, Hair Magic Volume 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, polyquaternium-11 2.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, hydrolyzed keratin 0.50 g, polysorbate 20 0.50 g, preservative 0.50 g, fragrance 0.20 g. Mix water and propanediol, add the polymer and stir until uniform. Add panthenol, keratin and the concentrate below 40 °C. Premix fragrance with polysorbate 20, add, then the preservative. Adjust pH to about 5.0.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
Storage
Keep sealed, cool and away from light.
