What it is used for

The flakes are used to join oil and water into a stable oil-in-water emulsion. Typical products are face creams, body lotions, hand creams and light serum emulsions. Choose the use level from the supplier documents and adjust it to the oil load of your formula; heavier creams need more emulsifier than light lotions.

Building a simple cream

A basic cream starts with a water phase with a humectant such as vegetable glycerin, and an oil phase with an emollient like squalane oil plus the emulsifier flakes. Processing

Melt the flakes in the oil phase, heat both phases to about 70 to 75 °C, then add one phase to the other with stirring and homogenize. Keep stirring while the emulsion cools.
