Description
Dry, sensitive skin needs a careful balance: enough richness to feel comfortable, but few enough ingredients to avoid reactions. IO Dry Skin Care Active Emulsion is a water-soluble active listed for creams for dry and sensitive skin and for redness-look care, with a clear processing note on its card.
Product data
Highly soluble in water; incompatible with fatty phases without additional stabilization. PH range 5.0 to 6.5. Applications from the card: creams for dry, irritated-feeling and sensitive skin, redness-look care and products for very dry, sensitive skin. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA of each lot confirms the exact INCI, composition and recommended level.
Processing note
The card states that the active is incompatible with fatty phases unless stabilized. Add it only to the water phase, ideally during cool-down after the emulsion has formed. Never premix it with oils. If you see separation or haze after addition, review the emulsifier system and consider a stabilizing polymer such as xanthan gum.
Product formats
Comfort cream
A daily cream for dry, sensitive skin.
Redness-look serum
A light serum for a calmer look.
Body cream
A rich cream for very dry skin.
Gel-cream
A lighter texture for sensitive combination skin.
Formulating guidance
Add the active during cool-down into the water phase and keep the finished pH between 5.0 and 6.5. Pair it with bisabolol for a calm-looking story, ceramide NP for barrier support and D-Panthenol for comfort. More ingredients for sensitive skin are listed under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording such as comfortable, calm-looking, less red-looking, soft skin. For this ingredient, support numbers with panel tests and redness-look measurements on the finished product.
Who the products are for
Customers with dry, sensitive skin, those with visible redness and people whose skin feels tight in winter.
Sensitive-skin design
Keep the ingredient list short, skip fragrance and essential oils, choose mild preservatives and test on sensitive panelists under dermatological supervision if possible.
Sensory design
Very dry skin wants cushion and lasting comfort. Use a balanced oil phase with shea butter and squalane, and test comfort several hours after application.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking pH, viscosity, separation and appearance. Pay special attention to emulsion stability given the processing note.
Packaging
Airless pumps keep sensitive-skin products clean.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.
Range planning
A serum, a face cream and a body cream form a gentle, fragrance-free routine.
Original recipe: comfort cream for dry, sensitive skin, 100 g
Phase A: water 66.40 g, glycerin 4.00 g, xanthan gum 0.30 g. Phase B: cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate 5.00 g, cetyl alcohol 2.00 g, shea butter 5.00 g, squalane 6.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 4.00 g, ceramide NP 0.20 g. Heat An and B to 75 °C, emulsify and cool. Phase C below 35 °C: IO Dry Skin Care Active Emulsion 3.00 g as an example level per CoA, panthenol 1.50 g, bisabolol 0.30 g, preservative 1.00 g, lactic acid solution 1.30 g. Adjust pH to about 5.8.
Winter and climate
Cold wind outside and dry heating inside are hard on sensitive skin. A richer winter version of the comfort cream and a lighter summer gel-cream can share the active. Seasonal messaging around comfort in harsh weather resonates strongly with this customer group.
Routine guidance
Recommend a gentle, non-foaming cleanser, the serum, the comfort cream and a mineral sunscreen in the morning.
Storage
Store the container closed in a cool place away from light.
