Description

About centella
Centella asiatica is a small creeping plant from the parsley family that grows in wet areas of Asia, Africa and other regions. It has a long history of traditional use, and in modern cosmetics its extracts and isolated compounds are used for comfort-focused, calm-looking skin. The exact INCI and source of this ingredient are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot.

Formulating guidance
Add the active during cool-down into the water phase and check the finished pH; the card lists 5.6, which suits most skin care. Combine with panthenol, humectants and barrier lipids. For a related centella ingredient with a different profile, see TECA 95 Centella Asiatica. More comfort actives are under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording: comfortable, soothed-feeling, calm-looking, smoother skin. Keep the vocabulary cosmetic and support claims with tests on the finished product, ideally on people who describe their skin as sensitive.
The cica trend
Cica products became popular through East Asian skincare and are now widely sold.A product with this ingredient can join this category with a clear explanation of the plant.
Who buys it
Customers with sensitive-feeling, dry or reactive skin, and people who want a simple, comforting product after sun, wind or shaving.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C. Plant-based actives can change color slightly; record it.
Packaging
Tubes for balms and creams, airless pumps for serums. Green tones and simple leaf illustrations communicate the plant story.
Range planning
A cica line with a serum, a cream and a balm covers daily and intensive needs. Keep fragrance out of all three for sensitive skin.
Combining with barrier ingredients
Comfort-focused products work best when they support the skin barrier at the same time. Pair the active with plant butters, squalane and a ceramide, and keep the humectant level generous. Avoid fragrance, essential oils and high levels of alcohol, which are frequent sources of discomfort for sensitive-feeling skin. For a lighter summer version, a gel-cream with a small oil phase keeps the cica concept while feeling fresh. Test both textures on panelists before choosing one for launch.
Original recipe: cica comfort balm-cream, 100 g
Phase A: water 61.80 g, glycerin 5.00 g, xanthan gum 0.20 g. Phase B: cetearyl olivate and sorbitan olivate 5.00 g, shea butter 8.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 6.00 g, squalane 4.00 g, beeswax 1.00 g. Heat An and B to 75 °C, emulsify and cool. Phase C below 40 °C: IO Calming Plant Active Liquid 4.00 g as an example level per CoA, panthenol 2.50 g, allantoin 0.20 g, bisabolol 0.30 g, preservative 1.00 g, lactic acid solution 1.00 g. Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
