Description

Birch trees are a symbol of northern forests and of spring. In Scandinavian and Eastern European traditions, birch sap was collected in early spring and enjoyed as a refreshing drink, and birch leaves were part of sauna rituals. IO Birch Fresh Plant Juice brings this fresh identity into cosmetics as a liquid botanical ingredient from range.

What the ingredient is

is a range of fresh plant juices and extracts prepared for cosmetic use. This grade is based on birch. The exact INCI, the plant part used, the solvent and the specification are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot, which is the basis for labeling. The product card lists water solubility and a pH range of 4.0 to 5.5.

Applications listed on the card

Skin care: toners and essences, facial serums, creams and emulsions, products for dull skin. Hair care: shampoos, scalp toners and lotions. Body care: gels and lotions, refreshing products. SPA and wellness: toning programs and refreshing complexes. Personal care in general.

Fresh toner

A birch toner for a clean, refreshed feel after cleansing.

Dull-skin serum

A light serum for tired-looking skin, combining the juice with a radiance ingredient.

Scalp toner

Birch has a long association with hair care in Europe. A scalp toner with the juice offers a fresh, light feel.

Sauna and spa products

Body gels and refreshing products for spa menus with a Nordic theme.

Formulating guidance

Add the juice during cool-down into the water phase. Its mildly acidic pH will influence the finished product slightly, so measure and adjust. Natural juices may have a light color and a characteristic odor; check fragrance and color stability under light. Combine with IO Apple Fresh Plant Juice for a fruit and forest concept, or with aloe vera juice for a fresh hydration base. More plant-based actives are listed under actives.

Nordic positioning

A birch product suits clean, minimal branding: white and green tones, forest imagery and short, calm copy. Avoid unverifiable claims about purity or wild harvesting unless the supplier documents them.

Claims

Use sensory wording: refreshed, revitalized-looking, clean-feeling skin and scalp. Base any claim about radiance on testing of the finished product.

Preservation

Plant juices contain sugars and other nutrients that support microbial growth. Use a robust preservative system and verify it with a challenge test.

Range planning

A forest-inspired range with a toner, a scalp toner and a body gel can share the birch juice. A seasonal spring edition can refresh the line each year.

Testing

Run stability at room temperature, 40 °C and under light. Natural juices can darken; record color at each point.

Texture and fragrance

Birch products feel best when light and fresh. Toners should be thin and clear, scalp toners quick-drying, body gels cooling. A green, woody or slightly herbal fragrance supports the forest theme, but keep it gentle so the natural character of the juice is not masked. Test fragrance and juice together, since the juice may slightly change how the perfume reads.

Original recipe: birch scalp toner, 100 g

Purified water 77.20 g, IO Birch Fresh Plant Juice 10.00 g as an example level per CoA, ethanol 8.00 g, glycerin 2.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, menthyl lactate 0.20 g, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil 0.50 g, fragrance 0.10 g, preservative 0.50 g, sodium citrate solution 0.50 g. Dissolve panthenol and glycerin in water, add the juice. Combine menthyl lactate, fragrance and solubilizer with the ethanol and pour this premix in gradually. Add preservative and adjust pH to about 5.0.

Storage

Store the bottle closed and cool, away from sunlight, and use clean tools each time you dispense.
