Description
What Biovolume 128 is
Biovolume 128 is an amber, ready-to-use liquid active made for hair care formulas that aim for a fuller, lifted, volumizing look. It brings a fermented wheat peptide into a water-based carrier, so a formulator can add body and a conditioned feel to fine or flat hair products without handling powders or heating anything. It is supplied by IngredientOS for professional and small-batch cosmetic makers.
It sits with the ready peptide liquids in our peptide solutions section, next to other water-soluble actives that are added in the cool-down phase.
Properties
The material is a liquid built around Triticum Aestivum (Wheat) Peptide, a plant protein fraction from wheat, together with Aspergillus Ferment, the product of fermentation with an Aspergillus microorganism. Water is the carrier, and 2,3-Butanediol is a small diol that also appears in other fermented actives. Wheat peptides are known in hair care for their affinity to the hair surface, where they help hair feel smoother, look shinier and appear to have more body after rinsing or drying. Because the active is already in solution, it disperses quickly in the water phase and leaves no residue to filter.
If you already work with our VeganBiotics Asper-W, you will recognize the same family of ingredients, a fermented wheat peptide in a light aqueous base.
Applications
Biovolume 128 is aimed at hair care formulas. It suits volumizing shampoos, light rinse-off conditioners, root lift sprays, leave-in mists, styling lotions, hair masks and scalp tonics with a cosmetic focus on fresh, airy hair. It also fits brow and lash gels and water-based beard care where a fuller look is the goal. In skin care it can be used as a moisturizing peptide note in toners and serums.
How to use
Add Biovolume 128 to the water phase of cold-process formulas, or during the cool-down phase of hot-process emulsions once the batch is below 40 °C. Stir gently until uniform. In surfactant systems, add it after the surfactants are blended and before final viscosity adjustment. Use the level recommended on the technical data sheet that ships with your order and adjust within it to the effect you want.
Compatibility
The liquid is water-soluble and mixes easily with glycerin, glycols and most water-based gels. It combines well with mild surfactants, cationic conditioning agents, panthenol, botanical waters and other hair care actives such as our hops extract. Strong oxidizers and very high temperatures should be avoided, as with most peptide ingredients. It does not mix with oils or silicones on its own, so add it to the water phase of an emulsion.
Characteristics
INCI: Triticum Aestivum (Wheat) Peptide, Aspergillus Ferment, Water, 2,3-Butanediol. CAS: Mixture. Appearance: amber liquid. Solubility: water-soluble. Because it contains a wheat-derived ingredient, label the finished product accordingly for customers who avoid wheat.
Bench example: volumizing leave-in mist
This 100 g bench batch shows one way to use the material. Weigh 88 g distilled water into a clean beaker. Add 3 g glycerin and 1 g panthenol and stir until clear. Add 0.3 g polyquaternium-10 sprinkled over the surface and stir until fully hydrated. Add 5 g Biovolume 128 and stir gently. Finish with 1 g broad-spectrum preservative used at its supplier rate, 0.2 g fragrance solubilized in 1.5 g polysorbate 20, and fill into fine mist sprayers. Spray onto damp hair at the roots before blow drying.
Storage
Keep the bottle tightly closed in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Refrigeration helps preserve freshness after opening. Close the pack quickly after each use and do not return unused material to the bottle. For cosmetic formulation use only.
