Description
About Azelamide MEA
Azelamide MEA is a powder that dissolves in hot water, hot ethanol and hot propylene glycol. It is a derivative of azelaic acid, designed to be easier to work with in cosmetic formulas. The supplier specification gives a broad working pH range and lists flake-control products, deodorants, skin and hair conditioners, and products for oily skin that help balance the look of shine, including care for skin prone to blemishes. The supplier CoA confirms the INCI and level.
Why azelaic acid derivatives are popular
Azelaic acid is well known in skin care for clearer, more even-looking skin. Pure azelaic acid can be hard to dissolve and gritty in products. Derivatives like Azelamide MEA aim to keep the appeal while making formulation easier.
Product formats
Oily-skin serums and gels
Light gels and serums for oily skin aim at a matte, clearer look.
Scalp care
Flake-control shampoos and scalp tonics help the scalp look less flaky.
Deodorants
The supplier specification lists deodorants. Roll-ons and sprays can carry it in a hot-dissolved premix.
Conditioners
Skin and hair conditioners can include it for a balanced, fresh feel.
Processing
Dissolve the powder in hot water, hot ethanol or hot propylene glycol, as the supplier specification notes. For emulsions, add it to the heated water phase. Stir until fully dissolved, then cool. Check the final pH.
Partners
IO Scalp Care Crystal Powder adds another scalp ingredient. Niacinamide and zinc PCA suit oily-skin products. Propylene Glycol is a practical hot solvent. More actives are listed in the actives catalog.
Testing
Check for recrystallization in cold storage. A panel can rate shine, clarity and comfort.
Claims
Use appearance wording: clearer, more even-looking skin; less shine; a scalp that looks less flaky.
Range ideas
A gel for oily skin, a scalp shampoo and a roll-on deodorant can share the active.
Characteristics
Form: powder. Solubility: hot water, hot ethanol, hot propylene glycol. PH range: broad. Listed uses: flake-control products, deodorants, skin and hair conditioners, oily-skin products. INCI and level: supplier CoA.
Original recipe: balancing gel for oily skin, 100 g
Distilled water 82.70 g, propylene glycol 5.00 g, Azelamide MEA 3.00 g, niacinamide 3.00 g, glycerin 2.00 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 1.20 g, panthenol 1.00 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution to target pH 1.10 g. Dissolve Azelamide MEA in hot propylene glycol and part of the water, hydrate the cellulose in the rest, combine and add the remaining items below 40 °C.
Working with hot solvents
Because Azelamide MEA dissolves in hot solvents, plan the process carefully. Heat the propylene glycol or ethanol solution gently in a closed vessel, and take care with flammable ethanol. Once dissolved, add the solution to the warm water phase and stir while cooling. Check the product after cold storage, since some actives can recrystallize when chilled. If crystals appear, adjust the solvent ratio or lower the level.
Deodorant formats
Roll-on deodorants use a light gel base, while sprays use a hydro-alcoholic base. Both can carry the dissolved active. Test for skin comfort in the underarm area, which can be sensitive after shaving.
Oily skin routines
A balancing gel used after cleansing and before a light moisturizer suits oily skin well.
Lot records
Keep the CoA with each batch file and compare the powder's color with a retained sample. Note the solvent and temperature used for dissolving.
Packaging
Roll-on bottles and airless pumps suit these products and keep the formula clean.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
Storage
Store closed in a dry place. Close the container after use.
