Description
Alpha glucosyl hesperidin AGG at a glance
Alpha glucosyl hesperidin AGG is a flavonoid powder from Japan. Its INCI is Glucosyl Hesperidin. It is a beige to light yellow, water-soluble powder used at 0.5 to 2% of the finished product. The supplier describes it as vitamin P, a natural flavonoid and polyphenol from the class of antioxidants.
From citrus peel to a soluble powder
Hesperidin is a flavonoid found in the peel of oranges, lemons and other citrus fruits. Its weak point is solubility: pure hesperidin hardly dissolves in water, which makes it hard to use in serums and gels. In AGG, an enzyme links hesperidin to glucose units. The result, glucosyl hesperidin, dissolves easily in water and keeps the useful flavonoid structure.
What it does
The supplier lists several roles. It supports the strength and normal permeability of the small vessels near the skin surface, improves microcirculation and nourishment of the skin, refreshes dull skin and improves the complexion. It is a strong antioxidant and helps protect cosmetic products from breaking down in light. In cosmetic claims this means a brighter, fresher looking complexion, less visible dark circles and puffiness, and skin that looks calmer and less red.
Eye care
Dark circles and puffiness under the eyes often have to do with the small vessels of this thin skin area. A flavonoid that supports these vessels is a natural fit for eye care. An eye gel with AGG and caffeine is a classic concept for a brighter, less puffy, more rested eye area.
How to formulate
Dissolve the powder in the water phase. It dissolves easily and gives a light yellow tint. Keep the finished product at about pH 5 to 6.5. It can also help protect light sensitive ingredients in the formula. For eye care, combine it with caffeine. For sensitive skin, add bisabolol for extra comfort. More antioxidant actives are listed in the cosmetic actives section.
Dosing
Daily creams and sensitive skin care use 0.5 to 1%. Eye gels, serums for dull skin and intensive products use 1 to 2%.
Product ideas
The supplier lists products for dark circles, dull and dark looking skin and puffiness, appearance-focused cosmetic cosmetics, care for very sensitive skin, after-sun care, protective creams, gels and emulsions, products that support the skin's surface temperature and bath products that leave the body feeling warm. Typical concepts are eye gels, radiance serums, redness calming creams, after sun gels and warming bath salts.
Sample recipe: bright eyes gel, 100 g
Distilled water 88.30 g, Alpha glucosyl hesperidin AGG 1.50 g, caffeine 1.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 1.00 g, panthenol 0.50 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution 0.70 g. Dissolve caffeine in the warm water, cool, dissolve AGG, disperse the cellulose, add glycerin, propanediol and panthenol, then the preservative, and adjust to about pH 6.
Warming bath products
The supplier mentions bath products that support circulation and give a feeling of a warmed body. In bath salts or bath milks, AGG adds a functional story to a relaxing ritual, especially for cold winter evenings.
Protecting the formula
Because it helps prevent the breakdown of cosmetic products in light, AGG is also useful in clear packaging, for example in transparent toners and gels that stand on a bathroom shelf.
Safety notes
Avoid contact with the eyes and do not exceed the recommended dose.
Storage
Store in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
