Description
Albizia Flower Extract at a glance
Albizia Flower Extract comes from the pink, feathery flowers of the silk tree, Albizia julibrissin, a tree native to Asia that is also known as the Persian silk tree or mimosa. The extract is prepared in glycerin and water, which gives the INCI Glycerin, Water, Albizia Julibrissin Flower Extract. It is a light yellow to beige liquid of low to medium viscosity, soluble in water and glycerin, with a pH of 4.5 to 6.5. It is produced in Spain. The supplier describes it as a plant active with soothing, rejuvenating and strengthening properties for mature, tired and stressed looking skin.
The silk tree in tradition
In Chinese tradition the silk tree has a poetic name that translates as the tree of collective happiness, and its flowers and bark have long been associated with calm and good mood. This background gives cosmetic brands a gentle, emotional story: a flower that helps skin look rested, relaxed and fresh. It fits well with the growing interest in products for stress and fatigue, often called mood or neuro cosmetics.
What it does in skin care
The supplier lists a range of benefits that translate into clear cosmetic claims. Albizia flower helps skin look less tired and more radiant, makes the eye area look less puffy, supports a firmer looking contour of the eyelids and neck, smooths the look of wrinkles and helps skin cope with daily stress. For the consumer, the message is fresh, rested and calm looking skin.
Dosing
The supplier gives three ranges. appearance-focused cosmetic creams and serums use 1 to 3%. Eye gels and eye creams use 0.5 to 2%, a lighter level for the delicate eye area. Masks and intensive serums can use up to 5%.
How to formulate
Add the extract to the water phase of a gel or serum, or to an emulsion at cool-down below 40 °C. Its pH of 4.5 to 6.5 fits most face care. Because it dissolves in glycerin as well as water, it is also easy to premix with other glycerin based actives. For an eye gel, it sits naturally next to caffeine for a fresher look and next to hyaluronic acid for hydration. Compare other flower and plant extracts in the botanical extracts section.
Product ideas
Eye contour gels and creams, gels for a less puffy look in the morning, appearance-focused cosmetic serums for tired skin, night creams, neck and eyelid firming creams, soothing sheet masks and creams for dull skin are the main uses. Spa and salon lines can use it in relaxing facial masks, where the calm story fits the ritual.
Sample recipe: morning eye gel, 100 g
Distilled water 88.70 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, Albizia Flower Extract 2.00 g, caffeine 1.00 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.20 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.80 g, preservative 1.00 g, citric acid solution 0.30 g. Dissolve caffeine in warm water, cool, hydrate sodium hyaluronate and the cellulose, add glycerin, propanediol, the albizia extract and the preservative, and adjust to about pH 5.5.
Labeling and claims
On the label the extract appears as Glycerin, Water and Albizia Julibrissin Flower Extract. In marketing text, silk tree flower extract is a friendly name. Keep claims visual and sensory, and support eye area claims with photos taken in the morning before and after four weeks of use.
Pairing with a calm routine
A brand built around the silk tree story can extend the idea of rest and calm into the whole routine. A night cream, an eye gel for the morning and a soothing mask for the weekend make a simple three step line. A soft, floral fragrance at a low level, or no fragrance at all for sensitive users, keeps the experience gentle.
Storage
