Description
A tensor effect is the light, smoothing tightness skin feels as some products dry. It comes from film-forming ingredients that contract slightly on the surface. IO Tightening Film-Forming Active is a water-soluble active whose name points to that effect, with moisturizers, sun care and appearance-focused cosmetic products on its card.
Product data
Water-soluble liquid. PH range 4.0 to 7.5. Applications from the card: moisturizers, sunscreen lotions, after-sun products, appearance-focused cosmetic cosmetics and vitamin formulas for the skin. For this ingredient, the supplier CoA of each lot confirms the exact INCI, composition and recommended level.
Film-formers in skin care
Film-forming polymers leave a thin, flexible layer on the skin. Depending on chemistry and level, they can smooth the surface, help other ingredients stay in place and, in sunscreens, support an even film of UV filters. Check the supplier documentation for which of these roles the material is designed for.
Product formats
Smoothing moisturizer
A daily cream with an instant smooth feel.
Sunscreen lotion
A lotion where the film supports even application.

Formulating guidance
Add the active to the water phase and keep the finished pH within the listed range. Pair it with palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 for long-term firmness, 3-glyceryl ascorbate for a vitamin C story and D-Panthenol for comfort. More ingredients are listed under actives.
Claims
Use cosmetic wording such as instantly smoother, tighter-feeling skin. Support numbers with tests shortly after application. In sunscreens, SPF claims depend only on standardized testing.
Who the products are for
Customers who want an instant smoothing effect, those with mature skin and anyone who wants a smooth base for makeup.
Sunscreen support
Even film formation matters for sun protection. Film-forming polymers are often used to help UV filters spread evenly and resist water. Run SPF and water-resistance tests on the finished product.
Makeup compatibility
Test pilling under foundation and advise customers to let the product dry briefly before makeup.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature and 40 °C, checking pH, viscosity and appearance.
Packaging
Pumps and tubes for lotions and creams, droppers for serums.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot and store retained samples.
Range planning
A smoothing serum, a day moisturizer and a sun lotion can share the film-former.
Original recipe: instant smoothing serum, 100 g
Purified water 83.70 g, glycerin 3.00 g, propanediol 4.00 g, IO Tightening Film-Forming Active 4.00 g as an example level per CoA, sodium hyaluronate 0.20 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.50 g, panthenol 1.50 g, allantoin 0.20 g, preservative 1.00 g, sodium citrate solution 1.90 g. For IO Tightening Film-Forming Active, disperse cellulose and hyaluronate in the glycols, add water and hydrate. Add the active, panthenol, allantoin and preservative. Adjust pH to about 5.5.
After-sun detail
After sun exposure, skin often feels dry and rough. A lotion with a film-former and humectants leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized. Keep the texture light so it spreads easily over large areas, and remind customers that after-sun care does not replace sunscreen.
Vitamin products
Vitamin serums can feel thin. A film-former adds body and a smooth finish, and may help the product sit evenly on the skin.
Sensory design
The tightening feel should be noticeable but comfortable. Panel tests help find the right level.
Storage
Keep the container closed in a cool place.
