Description
Silk amino acids in a liquid form
Silk Amino Acids Liquid brings silk protein into a formula in its smallest building blocks. Silk fibers are made of two proteins, fibroin and sericin. When they are broken down completely, the result is a mix of free amino acids and very short peptides, delivered here as a water-soluble liquid. It is used in hair and skin care to support a silky, moisturized feel. Confirm the INCI, solids content and pH on the certificate of analysis for your lot.
Why amino acids work as humectants
Free amino acids are part of the skin's natural moisturizing factor, the mix of small molecules that holds water in the outer skin layer. Serine, the most abundant amino acid in sericin, is one of its main members. Silk amino acids therefore fit naturally into hydration products. On hair, their small size lets them reach the surface layers of the cuticle, where they help strands hold moisture.
Hair care uses
Shampoos
A small share of silk amino acids gives a conditioning touch to mild shampoos and is a popular label ingredient.
Conditioners and masks
In rinse-off care, they add softness and smoothness. Combined with cationic conditioners they leave hair easy to comb.
Leave-ins and sprays
Leave-in sprays and serums keep the amino acids on the hair, which gives the most noticeable silky feel.
Skin care uses
Serums and toners
Watery serums and toners can carry silk amino acids as a humectant with an elegant story.
Creams and masks
In emulsions, they add a soft finish and support the moisturizing message.
How to use it
Add the liquid to the water phase below 40 °C and stir until uniform. It is compatible with most surfactants, cationic conditioners and thickeners. Check the final pH, since protein derivatives can slightly shift it. Use a robust preservative system, because amino acids are nutrients for microbes.
Partners
Silk amino acids combine well with other moisture ingredients. Hydrolyzed keratin adds a strengthening story to hair products, and D-panthenol supports moisture retention. More hair and skin concentrates are listed in the actives catalog.

Silky leave-in spray recipe, 100 g
Distilled water 89.40 g, silk amino acids liquid 3.00 g, glycerin 2.00 g, cetrimonium chloride 1.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil 0.80 g, fragrance 0.30 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, propanediol 1.00 g, lactic acid solution 0.50 g. Dissolve glycerin, panthenol and the conditioner in water, add the silk amino acids, premix the fragrance with the solubilizer and add it, then add propanediol and preservative and adjust the pH to about 4.5.
Label and origin notes
Silk is an animal-derived material, so products with silk amino acids are not vegan. On the other hand, silk is a familiar luxury ingredient that consumers associate with smoothness, which makes it a strong label element in hair care. Keep the claim on feel: silky, soft, moisturized hair.
Choosing between silk forms
Silk ingredients come as powders, hydrolyzed proteins and amino acid liquids. Larger hydrolyzed proteins form more film on hair, while amino acids focus on moisture and a lighter feel. A liquid amino acid grade is the easiest to dose in water-based products and avoids dusting in production.
Storage
Store tightly closed in a cool place, away from light.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is it different from hydrolyzed silk?
Amino acids are smaller than hydrolyzed silk peptides. They act mainly as humectants and penetrate the hair surface more easily.
Can I use it in a shampoo?
Yes. Add it after the surfactants at the end of mixing.
Which amino acids does silk contain?
Silk protein is rich in serine, glycine and alanine.
