Description
Silk Amino Acid, small building blocks from silk protein
Silk Amino Acid is a light powder made by breaking silk protein down into individual amino acids such as serine, glycine and alanine. The INCI is Silk Amino Acids. Because the pieces are so small, they dissolve readily in water and leave no film, so they bring a moisturizing, soft-touch effect to hair and skin care without heaviness. Buy it as a cosmetic raw material from a 10 g trial pack up to 1 kg bulk.
Hair care first
The biggest use is in hair products. Shampoos, conditioners, leave-in sprays and hair masks use silk amino acids to help hair feel smoother and softer and to support moisture in dry-looking lengths. A level of about 0.5 to 2% is common, and leave-in products often sit at the lower end.
Skin care and body care
In skin care the powder adds a silky after-feel and a moisturizing claim to lotions, light creams, toners and body milks. It pairs well with D-panthenol in hair conditioners. For a stronger film-forming effect on the hair surface, use larger silk fragments such as hydrolyzed silk powder. Other conditioning and moisturizing materials are collected in our cosmetic actives section.
How to add it
Dissolve the powder in the water phase at room temperature or with mild warmth. It is compatible with most surfactant systems and emulsions. Store the pack closed and dry, because the powder can take up moisture from the air. For wholesale volumes above 1 kg, request a bulk quote from the supplier specification. It ships from Florida, usually within 1 to 2 business days, in the pack sizes shown above, and US shipping is free on orders of $50 or more.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between silk amino acids and hydrolyzed silk?
Silk amino acids are single amino acids and are very small, so they dissolve fully and leave no film. Hydrolyzed silk keeps larger peptide fragments that form a light film on hair.
What use level is typical?
About 0.5 to 2% in shampoos, conditioners, masks and creams.
Is the powder water soluble?
Yes. Dissolve it in the water phase at room temperature or with mild warmth.
