Description
What Melavoid is
Melavoid is a liquid plant active made from the root of Boerhavia diffusa, a plant used in traditional Indian botany. Its INCI is Propanediol, Aqua, Boerhavia Diffusa Root Extract. The material is water-soluble, light to dark brown and designed for products that promise a brighter and more even looking skin tone. The supplier recommends 1 to 3% in the finished formula and a product pH between 5.0 and 7.0. These are the numbers most buyers look for before they request a quote or check the price for a pilot batch.
How it works in cosmetic terms
The supplier describes Melavoid as a tone-evening active: it targets the processes that make skin produce more pigment in visible patches, so that dark spots look less pronounced and the overall complexion looks more uniform. It also carries an antioxidant profile and a soothing feel. In consumer language, a product with Melavoid helps skin look clearer, brighter and more even with regular use. Results take time, so claims should talk about a gradual, visible improvement.
Product types
Brightening care
Creams, serums and lotions for the look of dark spots and uneven tone are the main use. A serum at 2 to 3% makes a focused step in the routine, while a day cream at 1 to 2% fits daily routines.
Age care and after-sun
Age care products use Melavoid for texture and a more even looking tone in mature skin. After-sun lotions and gels help skin look more even after the summer, ideally next to soothing ingredients.
Formulating with Melavoid
Add the extract to the water phase of a gel or to an emulsion during cool-down, below 40 °C, and stir until uniform. Keep the final pH between 5.0 and 7.0. Because the liquid is brown, test color in clear products early, or choose opaque textures. Melavoid combines well with niacinamide for a broad tone-evening story and with alpha arbutin when you want two complementary brightening ingredients. You will find more tone and radiance concentrates in the actives section, useful when you plan a full brightening range from cleanser to cream.
Sample recipe: even tone serum, 100 g
Distilled water 82.20 g, glycerin 4.00 g, propanediol 3.00 g, niacinamide 4.00 g, Melavoid 3.00 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.30 g, hydroxyethylcellulose 0.50 g, D-panthenol 1.00 g, preservative 1.00 g, sodium citrate solution 1.00 g. Hydrate the cellulose and hyaluronate in water, add glycerin, propanediol, niacinamide and panthenol, then add Melavoid and the preservative below 40 °C and adjust the pH to about 6.0.
Stability and quality checks
Natural extracts can darken slightly over time. Run stability tests at room temperature and at 40 °C for several weeks and watch color and odor. Use opaque or UV-protective packaging for serums. Compare each new lot with its certificate of analysis.
Claims language
Use wording such as brighter looking skin, more even looking tone, dark spots look less visible and radiant complexion. Avoid promises of permanent removal of pigment.
Building a brightening line
A night cream can raise the level again and add a soothing botanical. Keep fragrance light, since many shoppers with uneven tone also have sensitive-feeling skin. Photograph the same area of skin under the same light before and after several weeks of use if you want honest visual material for your marketing.
Storage
Store in a dry, cool place, tightly closed and protected from light.
