Description
IBR-Dormin at a glance
IBR-Dormin is a plant appearance-focused cosmetic active made from narcissus bulbs. The bulbs of Narcissus tazetta are harvested during their dormant phase, the quiet period before they sprout, and extracted with water. The INCI is Water, Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract. The material is a yellow liquid to paste from France, dissolves in water and works at very low levels: 0.5% for preventive care and 1% for intensive care. The working pH range is 4 to 8, and the active is added at the end of the process below 40 °C. It is often simply called Dormin.
The idea of dormancy
Flower bulbs spend much of the year in a resting state. They store energy, protect themselves against stress and wait for the right moment to grow. This state of controlled balance inspired the active. The supplier presents IBR-Dormin as a way to capture the calm of the dormant bulb for the skin, a story that is easy to tell and stands out from the usual appearance-focused cosmetic language. For the consumer, the message is skin that looks balanced, calm, smooth and youthful for longer.
Two uses, two doses
Prevention at 0.5%
For young skin from about 20 to 25 years, the supplier suggests 0.5%. At this level the active fits into light day creams, gel creams and serums for the first signs of aging, positioned as preventive care.
Intensive care at 1%
For mature skin, the dose rises to 1%, in night creams, rich serums and balms. The goal is a smoother, firmer and more rested looking complexion.
How to formulate
Add IBR-Dormin at the end of the process, when the batch is below 40 °C. In a cold process gel or serum it can go directly into the water. It works in a wide pH range of 4 to 8, so it can be combined with mildly acidic products as well as neutral creams. Because the dose is low, prepare a premix in a little water to ensure even distribution. For a complete appearance-focused cosmetic serum, it combines well with hyaluronic acid for hydration and with a peptide such as acetyl hexapeptide-8 for an expression line message. Product ideas
Preventive day creams for skin in its twenties, first appearance-focused cosmetic serums, rich night creams, balms for mature skin, eye creams and neck creams are the main uses. A two product line, a light preventive cream at 0.5% and an intensive night cream at 1%, follows the supplier's own dosing logic.
Sample recipe: preventive gel cream, 100 g
Distilled water 81.00 g, glycerin 4.00 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 5.00 g, squalane 3.00 g, sodium acrylates copolymer 1.50 g, niacinamide 2.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, IBR-Dormin 0.50 g, sodium hyaluronate 0.20 g, preservative 1.00 g, fragrance 0.20 g, citric acid solution 0.60 g. Hydrate sodium hyaluronate in water with glycerin, disperse the polymer and the oils to form a gel cream, then below 40 °C add niacinamide, panthenol, IBR-Dormin, the preservative and fragrance, and adjust to about pH 5.5.
Labeling and claims
On the ingredient list the active appears as Water and Narcissus Tazetta Bulb Extract. In marketing copy, narcissus bulb extract or dormant bulb extract are clear names. Claims should be visual: smoother looking skin, a more even and rested look, a firmer looking contour. Consumer perception tests over four to eight weeks are a good way to support them.
Why a low dose matters
At 0.5 to 1% the active adds little cost and almost no effect on texture, color or odor, which makes it easy to fit into an existing base. It is also a practical way for a brand to refresh an established cream with a new story without reformulating from scratch.
Storage
Store in a cool, dark place in a tightly closed container. A certificate of analysis comes with every lot.
