Melatonin Powder

What it is

Melatonin Powder is a raw material for topical cosmetic products. It is only slightly soluble in water but dissolves well in alcohols and glycols. In skincare, melatonin is known as an antioxidant ingredient and has become a signature name in night creams and scalp care products.

It is listed with our cosmetic actives. In night creams it is usually paired with antioxidants that work in the oil phase, such as Coenzyme Q10 powder, or with a gentle retinol-alternative like bakuchiol.

How to work with it

Dissolve the powder in propylene glycol, butylene glycol or ethanol with gentle stirring until clear. Add the solution to the water phase of serums or to an emulsion at cool-down. Protect the product from strong light during production. Check that the ingredient stays dissolved after storage in the fridge. Use the level given on the CoA and check the rules for cosmetic use of melatonin in your market.

Packaging

Melatonin is sensitive to light. Choose opaque or amber bottles, airless pumps or tubes, and avoid clear jars. Include the final packaging in the stability test.
