Description

Matrixyl Morphomics as the branded Sederma active

Matrixyl Morphomics is one of the newer members of the Matrixyl family from Sederma, a liquid active made for leave-on products that target the look of wrinkles and facial contours. The supplier specification sells the original raw material in the manufacturer composition: N-Prolyl Palmitoyl Tripeptide-56 Acetate at about 20 to 50 ppm in water with pentylene glycol and caprylyl glycol, INCI Water (Aqua), Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, N-Prolyl Palmitoyl Tripeptide-56 Acetate, with the certificate of analysis for each lot. It is listed with our peptide actives.

When the branded version is the right one

The Matrixyl name is one of the best known in cosmetic peptides, and brands that use it in marketing need the original raw material and its documents behind the claim. For a brief that only asks for a water-soluble anti-wrinkle active, the IO Anti-Wrinkle Peptide Liquid is our own-name grade at a lower price. Keeping the branded and own-name grades apart in your raw material list avoids a label that does not match the ingredient behind it.

How it is used in skin care

The active is used in anti-wrinkle serums, lifting creams, neck and decollete creams and eye care, where the aim is a smoother-looking surface and a more defined, lifted-looking contour. It is often layered with other peptides from the same family, such as the Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 liquid, or with hyaluronic acid for a plumper look. Claims on finished products should stay cosmetic, and manufacturer study numbers should not be turned into consumer promises.

Adding it to a formula

The liquid is water-soluble and goes in at the end of the process, below 40 °C: add it to a finished serum or gel at room temperature, or to an emulsion after it has cooled, and stir until uniform. The manufacturer use level is 2.0% of the finished formula, and the working pH range is 4.0 to 6.0. Do not hold the active at high temperature.

Compatibility

The liquid works with hyaluronic acid, glycerin, panthenol, niacinamide, most gums and the usual emulsifiers and preservatives. Keep strong oxidizers, very low pH systems and high free alcohol away from it, and add it after any long high-shear step.

Appearance and specification

The material is a water-soluble liquid concentrate. The INCI is Water (Aqua), Pentylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, N-Prolyl Palmitoyl Tripeptide-56 Acetate. The certificate repeats it with the lot number and release data, and it is the record that ties your finished batch to the original manufacturer lot. Copy the label INCI from the document that came with your lot. If the composition on a new lot differs from your file, update the ingredient list before the next production run.

Product formats

Typical launches built on this active include a lifting serum, a contour cream for the jawline and neck, an eye cream and an overnight mask. In serums it shares the water phase with humectants and other peptides, while in creams it is post-added once the emulsion has cooled. Light, fast-absorbing textures suit morning products, and richer emulsions suit night care and the neck area, where skin tends to be drier. A fragrance-free version is a good choice for eye products.

Recipe: lifting neck cream, 100 g

Water 72.6 g, glycerin 3 g, glyceryl stearate and PEG-100 stearate 4 g, cetyl alcohol 2 g, caprylic/capric triglyceride 7 g, squalane 4 g, shea butter 2 g, Matrixyl Morphomics liquid 2 g (2.0%), sodium hyaluronate solution (1%) 2 g, xanthan gum 0.2 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1 g, sodium gluconate 0.1 g, tocopherol 0.1 g. Heat the water and oil phases separately to 75 °C, emulsify, then cool with stirring. Below 40 °C add the hyaluronate, tocopherol, the Morphomics liquid and the preservative. Adjust pH to about 5.5.
