Description
Kerafilm in short
Kerafilm is a liquid active for hair appearance support and conditioning. It dissolves in water and works in a pH range of 4.5 to 6.5, which matches the natural slightly acidic environment preferred by hair care. The supplier specification lists shampoos, repairing and conditioning products, conditioners, masks, styling products and ampoule care. The name hints at its role: to form a light, protective film along the hair shaft. Confirm the full INCI, active content and recommended dose on the certificate of analysis and technical sheet.
Why a film former matters
Damaged hair has a raised, porous cuticle. It tangles, loses shine and breaks more easily when combed. Film-forming actives cover the surface with a thin layer that smooths the cuticle, improves slip and makes strands feel stronger. The benefit is immediate and visible, which is why film formers are core tools in appearance support ranges.
Formats
Shampoos
In a appearance support shampoo the active adds a conditioning touch after rinsing. Keep the surfactant system mild so that the film is not stripped right away.
Conditioners and masks
Rinse-off conditioners and masks are the classic home for leave-on cosmetic formulas actives. A longer contact time in a mask increases the visible smoothing.
Ampoules and leave-ins
Ampoule courses and leave-in sprays keep the film on the hair until the next wash. These formats give the strongest result.
Styling
Styling creams and blow-dry sprays benefit from the extra body and protection a film gives.
Processing
Add Kerafilm to the water phase at cool-down, below 40 °C. In conditioners, add it after the emulsion with cationic conditioners has cooled. Adjust the final pH to 4.5 to 6.5. Avoid strong anionic loads in leave-in products, since they can interfere with film formation.
appearance support range partners
A appearance support line often combines film formers with protein and moisture ingredients. Hydrolyzed keratin adds a protein story, and D-panthenol helps strands hold moisture. More hair concentrates are available in the actives catalog.

appearance support mask recipe, 100 g
Distilled water 79.60 g, cetearyl alcohol 5.00 g, behentrimonium chloride 2.00 g, shea butter 2.00 g, Kerafilm 4.00 g, glycerin 3.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, hydrolyzed keratin 1.00 g, phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin 1.00 g, fragrance 0.40 g, lactic acid solution 1.00 g. Melt the fatty alcohol, quat and shea at 75 °C, add hot water and homogenize, cool below 40 °C, then add Kerafilm, keratin, panthenol, preservative and fragrance and adjust the pH to about 4.5.
Testing
Wet and dry combing tests and a shine reading on bleached tresses are the most useful tools to document the visible effect. A consumer panel on softness and manageability completes the picture.
Choosing the right dose
The right level depends on the format and on how damaged the target hair is. Rinse-off shampoos need less, because only part of the active stays on the hair, while masks and ampoules can carry a higher share for a stronger smoothing effect. Start with the level given in the technical sheet, then compare treated and untreated tresses in a simple half-head or tress test. Watch for build-up on fine hair in leave-in products: if strands feel heavy after several uses, reduce the dose or move the active to the rinse-off part of the routine.
Storage
Store closed in a cool, dry place away from direct light.
