Description

Hydrosella at a glance

Hydrosella is a liquid botanical ingredient with the INCI Glycerin, Water, Erythritol, Hibiscus Sabdariffa Fruit Extract. It mixes with water. The supplier specification lists all products for face and body skin. The combination of two humectants and a hibiscus extract makes it a hydrating, refreshing botanical complex. Confirm the extract content and dose on the certificate of analysis.

Hibiscus and erythritol

Hibiscus sabdariffa, called roselle, is a tropical plant whose red calyces are used for hibiscus tea. They contain organic acids, anthocyanin pigments and polysaccharides. In skin care, hibiscus is associated with a fresh, smooth and radiant look. Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that occurs naturally in some fruits. It binds water and gives a fresh, clean hydration feel with less stickiness than many humectants.

Formats

Face toners and serums

Watery toners and serums show the fresh hydration feel.

Creams and gels

Day creams and gel-creams can carry the complex in the water phase.

Body care

Body lotions and mists benefit from a refreshing botanical humectant.

Masks

Hydrating masks with a fruit story are popular in summer.

How to use it

Add Hydrosella to the water phase at cool-down, below 40 °C, and stir until uniform. Check color in clear products, since hibiscus pigments can tint the base pink or red and may shift with pH. Account for the glycerin it adds when balancing humectants.

Partners

Fruit-themed hydration works well with other plant juices and light humectants. Mango Herbasol fresh plant juice adds a tropical fruit story, and betaine gives soft hydration. More plant extracts are in the botanical extracts catalog.

Hibiscus hydrating mist recipe, 100 g

Distilled water 88.60 g, Hydrosella 5.00 g, glycerin 1.00 g, propanediol 2.00 g, panthenol 1.00 g, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil 0.50 g, fragrance 0.20 g, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate blend 1.00 g, citric acid solution 0.70 g. Dissolve panthenol in water, add Hydrosella, glycerin and propanediol, premix the fragrance with the solubilizer and add it, then add the preservative and adjust the pH to about 5.

Color as a feature

Hibiscus can give a soft pink tint. Instead of masking it, some brands make it part of the product identity, with clear packaging that shows the color. Check color stability under light and at different temperatures, since natural pigments can fade or shift.

Dose guidance

Follow the technical sheet. Mists and toners can use a moderate share, creams a smaller share.

Range idea

A summer hydration range with a mist, a gel-cream and a sheet mask, all with hibiscus, a fresh fruity fragrance and light pink packaging, tells a cheerful and coherent story.

Why erythritol is interesting

Erythritol is better known as a sweetener, but in cosmetics it is valued as a humectant with a fresh, light feel. It holds water without the sticky after-feel that high glycerin levels can give, and it suits light textures for warm weather. Combined with glycerin in this complex, it gives balanced hydration.

Organic acids and pH

Hibiscus contains natural organic acids that can lower the pH slightly. Measure the pH of the finished product after adding the complex and adjust if needed.

Storage

Store tightly closed in a cool place, away from light.
