Description
Oil-soluble actives open up product types that water-based ingredients cannot reach: face oils, balms, lip treatments and stick formats. IO Face Oil Active is a liquid active that dissolves in oil, so it belongs in the fatty part of a formula and in fully anhydrous products.
Product data
Liquid, soluble in oil. The card does not list applications, pH or origin. The exact INCI, composition and recommended level are confirmed on the supplier CoA for each lot, and the CoA is the reference for the label and any claims.
Working with an oil-soluble active
Add the active to the oil phase of an emulsion. If it is heat-sensitive, hold back part of the oil phase, mix the active into it and add the premix during cool-down below 40 °C. In anhydrous products, blend it into the oils at room temperature or with gentle warming. Protect the finished product from air and light with an antioxidant such as tocopherol and opaque packaging.
Product formats
Face oil
A dry-touch blend of light oils and esters.
Balm
A rich, solid balm for dry areas and cold weather.
Lip care
A stick or tube product with the active in the base.
Night cream
An emulsion with the active in the oil phase.
Formulating guidance
Build face oils on light esters and squalane oil for a fast, silky finish. Add mixed tocopherols as an antioxidant and bakuchiol for a gentle appearance-focused cosmetic story. More ingredients are listed under actives.
Claims
Base claims on supplier documentation and tests of the finished product. Without data, keep wording to softness, comfort and glow.
Who the products are for
Face oils and balms suit customers with dry or mature skin and those who like evening rituals with massage. Lip products serve everyone in winter.
Sensory design
Oil blends are judged by absorption speed and after-feel. Mix fast-spreading esters with richer plant oils and test on the back of the hand at one, five and fifteen minutes.
Oxidation control
Plant oils and many oil-soluble actives slowly oxidize. Use fresh oils, add an antioxidant, limit headspace in the bottle and record the date of each batch. A rancid note is the first sign of trouble.
Testing
Run stability at room temperature, 40 °C and under light, checking color, odor and clarity. In balms, also check hardness and blooming.
Packaging
Amber glass droppers for oils, tins or jars for balms, airless tubes for creams.
Batch quality
Keep the CoA for each lot, check appearance and odor on arrival and store retained samples.
Massage ritual
A face oil invites a short massage: warm a few drops between the palms, press onto the face and finish with upward strokes. A simple ritual printed on the box raises perceived value.
Original recipe: nourishing face oil, 50 g
Caprylic/capric triglyceride 17.00 g, squalane 15.00 g, jojoba oil 8.00 g, rosehip seed oil 6.00 g, IO Face Oil Active 2.50 g as an example level per CoA, bakuchiol 0.50 g, mixed tocopherols 0.50 g, fragrance-free bisabolol 0.50 g. Mix all oils at room temperature, add the active, bakuchiol, tocopherols and bisabolol and stir until clear. Fill into amber glass.
Anhydrous preservation
Products without water usually do not need a classic preservative, but they must stay dry. Advise customers to keep droppers clean and avoid water getting into the bottle. If a balm is used with wet fingers, consider a small jar size or a stick format to limit contamination.
Range planning
A face oil, a balm and a lip product can share the active and a recognizable scent, creating a compact nourishing collection.
Record the lot number in your batch log so every production run can be traced back to its certificate of analysis. Retain a small sample of each lot for at least the shelf life of the finished product, since it makes later quality questions much easier to answer.
Storage
Keep the container closed, cool and away from light and air.
